COU seems to run at about 50° or so when running the SIM. I’ve not had much opportunity to sample data (■■■■ work keeps getting in the way)
My spec is:
CPU: 12900KF 3.2ghz 64G
MB: AsRock 2690 with a ASUS ROG Strix LCII 120 Liquid cooler
GPU: Asus Tuf RTX3080ti 12Gb DDR6X
Antec N410 case with 3 chassis fans
Tried one flight from LAX with the 3060 installed … 2 hours later my 3080 is air cooled again and installed, I’m not going a couple of weeks like that. Now to see if I did it correctly.
Very grateful if somebody could answer the following question. When talking about cpu temperatures, are we referring about average or maximum numbers. Occasionally, when flying at heavy airports, my cpu temps can reach about 94 celcious, but when checking average temps, it is about 74. So only for seconds, cpu could reach very high temps.
Absolute temps i.e. the hotspots … 94°C is really pushing things hard and needs to drop by about 10 degrees. Yes your card will throttle before it breaks but even then IMO you are killing it rather quickly
Thanks a lot. I spoke with a tech guy about this. He told me not to use a liquid cooler, as most pc`s he is repairing are because of liquid coolers problems. I use a “be quiet” cooler, plus 2 noctua fans in front panel. When removing side panel and front panel , temps reduce about 7-10 celcious. Maybe very high summer temperatures in Greece cause these problems…
For sure the high ambient temps are a problem however I think you may need to experiment with the airflow in your case. A good set up should pretty much match an open case set up. Liquid coolers are fine but you cannot just fit them and forget and I guess that’s the main problem.
I believe in a fairly aggressive cooling fan curve (yeah suddenly I’m all about air lol)
I don’t like fans going idle unless the machine is off
All my fan groups are set 40% minimum 40c CPU and GPU most of the wear on moving parts is from stop to start, the drier fans on my car wash have a look back feature where if they see a second car is in the wash soon to need the driers they stay on at half power to save power and wear.
That said from there 70% at 50c and then full on tsunami 100% at 60c
Don’t get behind in your cooling, it’s easier to keep a PC cool than cool it down from being hot.
For anyone who wants to stop the fan NOW (or within 10-15 seconds) press Escape, then Load/Save then choose Load from this PC and let the file dialog open for a while it will pause your flight and MSFS will cool off very quickly. Zero percent GPU
Did a flight from LOWW (gaya) to EKCH (flytampa) with the amazing Fenix A320. Almost everything on ultra (PG turned off). Front and side panel removed. Max temps for GPU 61.3 c, CPU 87 c. With front and side panel on the case, temps were 67 c for GPU and 94 c for CPU. Unfortunately I have to keep my case naked during summer time here in Greece. How serious is the risk when leaving the case open? Will DX 12 improve things, concerning temps?
There’s no real risk apart from the open fans (just sell the kids and you’ll be ok). Give your fans and heatsinks a blow out with a compressed air spray before you reassemble your PC in the fall. DX12 might help you run at lower settings but it’s a fact that you could even do that now. There are no set limits to MSFS, sometimes I think there should be.
This is the simplest way to keep your PC running as cool as is possible. Do this a few times a year. You don’t even have to disassemble anything. Take it outside with a few cans of air, and have at it.
