I was a bit surprised to see that Japan was a seperate download which you have to ‘buy’. Will this be the how all ‘earth updates’ will be released…? I was expecting and hoping Japan would be a core update. If this is how it is going to be with every upcoming ‘earth update’ you will have to select a lot of ‘bought’ DLC whenever you have to reinstall the sim…
Why not release Japan as a core update so it simply is a part of the core sim? Will every promised ‘earth update’ be released as DLC?
I agree. World updates should be mandatory core updates. But then again how will the future users know that asobo released free world dlcs if they get installed by default ? It is in the marketplace because they want YOU to know and appreciate the fact that its a FREE dlcs.
I understand the idea about being able to deselect regions you don’t want, also because I am not sure of what is being streamed or not. It is clear that not everything is streamed otherwise the Japan download wouldn’t have had the size it had. Being able to deselect unwanted regions can be handy indeed.
I think there may be a difference between core world updates (which mainly solves bugs and add smaller improvements like perhaps newly taken Bing photoreal textures) and DLC world updates (which add POI’s, airports and a lot more of other data). The core updates will always be free (I suppose) and the DLC may become payware at some point. Just thinking out loud here. Anyway, ‘world updates’ that you will have to pay should be regarded as addon airports or Orbx TrueEarth regions.
