Reprojection is key to eliminating the stutter in the cockpit. This is one area where X-Plane is better as I believe they render the cockpit separate to the outside however that also means they have to manage both seperately so that itself brings further graphical render limitations.
I can’t speak for Oculus myself but on the HP Reverb G2 - these tricks have given me a smooth cockpit experience - and I mean pretty much flawless.
- If you have a monitor infront of the inside out tracking headset then run MSFS in a window full size but pull down so the 99% of the MSFS window isn’t showing - eliminates moving artifacts so the headset sees a static display.
- Run with reprojection on - for WMR it’s using OpenXR with runtime preview enabled - but that does compromise clarity a touch - worth it for a smooth experience.
- Don’t overburden the GPU, turn down some graphical settings to maintain 30fps before reprojection.
- Ensure you don’t have any bright lights in the vacinity of the headset’s cameras - I usually have my ceiling lights on but I switch off any wall lights and I’ve removed any reflective objects.
Of course if you own an outside in tracking headset like a Valve Index than none of the environmental stuff matters and it’s down to the performance of the sim.
