Installed Logitech Wingman Force Feedback joystick. It shows up in the Controls, and I was able to map the buttons, but it doesn’t work in actual gameplay. There is no response at all.
I do not know about VR but just check that you are NOT in “Drone” Mode.
To activate plane controls in Drone mode , you have to press “C” key.
This happens to me very often…

Your joystick is detected in the FS2020 input config menu.
You can map functions to your axes/buttons/etc and you can see these work within that config menu?
If you select an axis (elevator for example) in the config menu you can see it respond to your joystick input? (A white bar will be visibly moving in the axis menu as you move the joystick)
