June 12, 2025 Development Update Blog Discussion

If it keeps going like that, the next MSFS iteration will become a repetition of Microsoft Flight. Does anybody remember that? No? Exactly. :frowning:

I agree that those development updates - and in fact the whole beta are a bit of a joke. The state the sim was originally released in was more like alpha and has now maybe evolved to something akin a beta - with the so called beta being alpha of the beta. But apart from this misleading labeling of the product, the main problem is definitely the lack of communication and integration of the community in said beta. It seems entirely one-way with almost no feedback from the developers. This feedback would be vital to increase the efficiency of a beta as people could sfocus on more specific areas the developers are currently working on instead of being bombarded with a million complaints. It seems totally disorganised to me and mostly a waste of time for people using their free time trying to help a developer that is not really interested in it. Open communication may lead to some small disappointments from time to time, but that would be a hundred times better than the feeling of being a guniea pig left in the dark.

This.
I don’t know if this could be considered fraudulent marketing but even without that it isn’t a good policy or ethics IMO.

Why are things going like this? We want the franchise to succeed, stop shooting your own foot please :frowning:

I remember it! And I still miss it. xD
It was as expected, an arcade flight simulator to play around and have fun.

Some nice screenshots and I must say, having owned a Next Level Racing rig for sim racing, that will make a nice option for those that want it. And that’s all the nice things I can say about this “development” update.

The developer remains hidden on FS24 products. It’s dishonest to customers and disrespectful to good developers. I know you can mouse over it in-sim, but I don’t have the sim. I want to like FS24. I want to buy it, I just want to see it reach release candidate status. Part of what I’m watching is releases on the marketplace. But hiding the developer renders this useless.

Also, where is the actual development update? FS24 SU3 is in a critical beta period, and FS2020 also has the SU16 beta in-process. There’s not even a generic statement of “beta testing continues, thank you community.” This would be the place to actually discuss where development stands, what are current issues, where is the focus, how is progress toward release? This sim’s future is dependent upon getting it to a release state (SU’s) and a proper functioning marketplace, and right now we’re seeing very little progress and no communication on either.

And then they post these threads as if there’s going to be any substantive conversation about these updates.

What do they expect us to say other than, “These updates are terrible and no one’s listening to us repeat that every week.”

Maybe it’s a good idea to split off the marketplace section into a new category called “Marketplace News” and publish that weekly. Or, if you want to include general news, call it “Weekly Debrief” or something similar.

Put everything else into a bi-weekly or even monthly development update, and give us an actual update on the development. Some info about what’s going on behind the scenes, as well as updated wishlists and bug reports, would be appreciated.

The last few months of development updates have barely contained anything about development anymore. In my opinion, that’s not a problem in itself. We don’t need weekly updates just for the sake of having an update. I’d rather have quality information over quantity. Currently, the title is simply misleading.

Once i wished something like a "complete commented version of the snapshots, each item on the snapshots commented by the responsible dev/dev team themselves…

Today i would wish something related to development at all…

In the end, it’s all about communication. If communication would finally begin, maybe the sky really wouldn’t be the limit… right now, sky is unattainable: The Sky is invisible if they continue to stay in their cave… sad.

They won’t communicate by giving us worthwhile information because it’s a no-win for them. If they tell us the CRJ is being worked on without giving us an ETA, we’ll be upset. If they give us an ETA and they don’t meet it, we’ll be upset. If they communicate at all, then the next time something comes up, we’ll say “well you told us about the CRJ, so why are you going radio silent now?” and we’ll be upset.

The precedent of no communication has been set, and from their point of view there’s no reason to change (but I’d love to be proven wrong).

Even the most stubborn sometimes change their mind … as i said before … Publishing a “Dev Update Blog” without anything any dev related content is wrong… its even worse not apologizing for what’s missing is a pretty obvious way of saying, “We don’t care.” There was a time when at least the outdated snapshots had a comment explaining why they weren’t updated.

To the marketplace:

They just stop putting any fairy dust on it and just publish it once uploaded by the dev.

We’re still waiting for product updates to 2024 Marketplace which were approved into the 2020 Marketplace during the same timeframe. It is frustrating.

2020 Marketplace has the updated '24 compatible version, while '24 Marketplace does not. The '24 MP version is two months out of date.

I suspect the problem with the CRJv2 for 2024 in the marketplace isn’t even a marketplace problem at this point, it’s Hans that needs to submit the necessary fixes to make it marketplace compliant.

It might even be a similar issue to the problem PMDG is having. Although in the case of PMDG, it appears Asobo has been giving PMDG conflicting instructions about how to make their planes marketplace compliant for 2024. According to PMDG they’ve known about the issue since December.

That being said, it’s funny how MScenery, VA Systems, and Captain Sim have no problems getting their products into the 2024 marketplace.

Which was sort of my question above. There are not many planes in there that are MSFS2024 compatible AND have a rating above 4. AS you say, those few developers of poor quality planes do manage to get a multitude of planes into the marketplace - so what is going on?

You bring up a good point, and that’s the problem with lack of communication, we’re left to speculate what’s happening.

It’s nice that these updates come out on a weekly basis, but there’s not enough substance to them.

This is 99% all we have ever done.

At times, I really wonder why I bother involving myself here. You’re all, mostly, enjoyable to interact with, but without Microsoft/Asobo, it’s pretty pointless conversation where we get nowhere talking about all that we do talk about.

Maybe were hoping that, just maybe, they might actually be decent enough to answer questions! They could so easily end speculation by having an adult conversation with us. I am not talking revealing trade secrets but I am wanting someone to be open and honest about what the hell is going on. A “blog discussion” without any discussion is pants!

I’m not following the news very closely on this, but last I heard, someone on this forum had gotten a response from support, saying the CRJ had failed compliance, and that the developer needed to submit a new version. If they have done that, no idea.

Take this with adequate amounts of salt, because there are plenty of ifs and buts here, and also second, third, and possibly fourth hand information.

You’re not wrong about that. It’s mostly all speculation and rants, and thankfully most people I’ve come across here have been helpful.

I guess my main point was I just wish Asobo gave us more substance to talk about.

I guess we can forget about a new beta release today if the dev update did not change at all, right?

I appreciate your and many other’s involvement here. It at least reminds me that I’m not crazy - others are seeing what I’m seeing. And while we don’t often get the information we ask for, they say they read the forums and I hope that our efforts at least occasionally get through and might, just might, make things better. When your passionate about something like this, I find it helps to talk with like minded folks, even if the most we can do is speculate and ask for MS/Asobo to do better.
