June 29, 2023 Development Update Blog Discussion

Imagine the effort involved in delivering 6 night enhancements versus the entire game itself, yet the price is basically the same. Whoever this is has got a great business model it seems.

For about two weeks I was actually looking forward to these updates but out of 160 ‘new products’, I only care about one which means that out of the remaing backlog of over 360 or so, I will probably only care about maybe two at most.
At least I know not to care anymore.

Well said, this is unfortunately exactly how I feel. And given almost every other comment is about these excessive night lights, I hope MS will start to do something about it.

For everyone talking about the night enhancements, I’d encourage them to check out the table on the backlog. I can try to copy it over here later when I’m not on my phone, but it’s more or less a pyramid shape. So inevitably, there will be many things on here that fall into that P4 category and many things that fall into that P3 category. It’s a lot easier to drop in a bunch of lights into a city than to faithfully create and test a high-quality technically complex aircraft.

The scenery backlog went from 121 P4s last time to 25 P4s this time. So it stands to reason that those night enhancements were P4.

Okay, so, “Why didn’t they release xyz this week?” What this table does not tell you is where everything is in the pipeline. Things can be stalled for various reasons or go back for testing or any number of scenarios. We simply do not know. Myself included.

Right now, there are 70 “new” P4s and 34 “updated” P4s in the backlog. So brace yourselves for another 104+ P4 products before this backlog goes down to zero. But have faith that the 12 P1s will also be released when they are ready.

Don’t come in here with your pyramid of answers!. How dare you reply quickly with an excellent explanation of what’s going on. Such transparency isnt welcome here.

We have pitchforks in hand and we like to moan and speculate. Haven’t you heard?

I think the problem is that this stream of night enhancements is not going to stop. Clearly these are not done by hand unless there’s some huge crowd of people working on them. They must be using a low touch
automated process to generate these things. Maybe they only sell 10 of a particular city, but if the effort is low enough this is still a successful business. This business model is entirely based on flooding the store with these accessories and will continue to do this so long as it is possible. If this wasn’t their model they’d be selling these as whole country packs, or even combined country packs for smaller countries. Maybe then some of us might consider 10 bucks as plausible.

As a user I think it’s at the point where night scenery needs a while new top level category. Aeroplanes, Airports, World, Night enhancements. Then we can just not go in that category. As it stands the user experience in the world scenery category is completely ruined and this harms the other developers, and MS itself.

Absolutely. There needs to be a limit of releases per week if there isn’t a way to categorize the night scenery packs any differently. It’s spamming up the marketplace.

I get that last week was kinda special with the whole FSExpo, but I find it interesting that week after week these “Development” update threads only ever seem to devolve into rantings about the marketplace. What gets released, what didn’t get released, what shouldn’t have been released, etc.

I miss the old days when they would post, and people would discuss actual development info. I really wish they would split these topics. Oh well.

I can’t wait to check out the Boeing Stratoliner. That is definitely something to look forward to.

I think that’s fair. Someone could consider creating a new Wishlist topic for putting night enhancements in their own category.

There’s one in Wishlist for creating a separate liveries category right now.

Ignoring the fact that the night scenery stuff is most of this weeks’ additions, it is pretty amazing that we were close to 1000 in the backlog in December and now we around 300.

Also I think PMDG said they still had some sort of testing to do for approval, so that is probably why they are delayed. Definitely looking forward to them being released, hopefully in the next few weeks.

I was hoping there already was one. Now I’ve created a wishlist item so for everyone who wants to make it easier to find your night product of choice (or even those users that would like to avoid them ) add your voice here

Hopefully MSFS 2024 doesn’t arrive as late as this scenery gateway does, else we may end up with MSFS 2026 instead.

Who’s the dev of the Stratoliner?

Can’t wait to check out that Stratoliner tomorrow.

Also praying Asobo makes these night enhancements obsolete with MSFS2024.

Being delayed is their trademark

Should have titled this update as Night Scenery Update.

I’m guessing the night scenery must be popular for all these to be released (not just today but regularly over the past few months). If so, the developer must be making a handsome profit.

Still waiting for:

CJD3
KMCI
ESNQ
EGSH

Come on airport developers!

Probably not on the list till after MS2024 and then probably not sorted still
