Take a look at today’s q&a. What an improvement - a stutter-free game.
I’m just, wow
From 35 fps to 60!

Render scale 40? 1536x823 px. Yes, its a performance win on any hardware.
Extremely impressed! Nothing surprises me with this development team!
I must admit, that was funny.
It’s scaling at 40%
That’s hardly groundbreaking…
It’s amazing actually.
In what way?
The performance improved 60%. The RAM usage gone from 24GB to 14GB. The cpu usage went from 100% to 75%. All of that on the same settings and same setup.
I didn’t see the demonstration as I missed it.
Who exactly is running the game in 4K with 40% render scaling? That would look awful on a 4K monitor. 80% is great…at 70% and below it looks rubbish and becomes pointless.
If you had a 1080p or 1440p monitor you would be better off running at those resolutions at 100% scaling. Surely?
It seems like an odd way to demo the improvements.
I don’t buy that for a single second!
I’m not saying they haven’t improved things, I’m really looking forward to see what they’ve done, but to demo it in 4K with 40% scaling is just bizarre.
Seb is, one of the main developers on the Asobo team. He has a 2060 super. This gpu isn’t meant to run @4K. He’s is testing the build, what really matters is the difference they got between sim update 4 and 5. Again, same settings and same setup. It’s clear it improved. How much it will improve to each individual, we will see. Lots of details to be taken into account.
He compared sim update 4 and sim update 5 with the same setting, same area there was significant difference on frame\gpu\ram and way less stutters.
It’s Seb, the Asobo guy, not Jörg.
More FPS, and also important, way more stable (frametimes).
But you’ve got to admit, that is a very odd way to demo the change.
Show me it at 4K Ultra with 100% scaling, then I’ll believe it.
If anything, people with really high end systems that play at 4K are the ones seeing the performance not hitting the heights their machines are capable of. To demo it in this way is slightly disheartening to me, I’ve got to be honest. Why do it, as virtually no-one would ever choose to play it in that config?
As I said, anything below 80% scaling on my 4K monitor looks absolute mince. 70% loses a LOT of definition and isn’t worth the extra FPS so I can’t even imagine what 40% would look like. Sadly I don’t have time to check right now.
Yes, sorry, I’ve corrected my post.
No one will be happy until it’s here to actually see it – but at least they showed us something, side by side, and if he has a 2060 then any of us with anything higher than that should get a good boost of performance. Utilizing the CPU and GPU more is a win win for everyone.
It was probably oversight that the OP didn’t include the before photo as well. It was a comparison flying in the same area with exact same settings
Sim Update 4
Sim Update 5
The FPS viewer shows stutters gone, less cpu usage, less memory etc. The point is using the exact settings there is a noticeable performance improvement which is a plus. Also they stressed that different PC configs will have different levels of improvements.
Why is the camera pointed down more in the SU5 video?
He wanted to show they had fixed/improved the cpu bottleneck. The lower the resolution, the better to show it.
Also, like I said, he doesn’t have a top tier GPU. The 2060 Super doesn’t run anything @4k on ultra.
Why he lowered the res scale? He probably doesn’t have a full-hd monitor. He probably works better on a 4K monitor.
But, well, you can think whatever you want. I’m positive and others are also.
