Just figured out why my VR experienced sucked. I'm in heaven now

I just received my beast computer from AVADirect, and was super excited to try out the VR world. Computer specs are:

i9 10900k overclocked (not sure of OC speed yet, haven’t checked it out)
3080
128gb DDR4 3200 (I do video and music production as well)
M.2 drive
Reverb G2 @90Hz

With much excitement I got into a VR flight and was immediately underwhelmed. Everything looked almost cartoony, with very distinct lines between different patches of the ground, roads looking like X-Plane, ect. I bumped everything up to Ultra or as high as it would go in the settings, then turned the resolution up as high as it would smoothly go (110 for me). Everything looked sharper, but was still the same cartoony look. I’m not sure why, but I never noticed the extra settings menu on the left of the screen, lol. After playing in there I found the ‘turn on Bing maps data’. This was a complete game changer. After enabling that, I feel like I’m flying in real life. The graphics in VR are amazingly gorgeous. I had the biggest grin on my face the entire time I was flying around my old hometown, Flagstaff, AZ. I am so psyched to go explore the world now.

I know a lot of people have had issues with their VR experience. I could not be happier though (well, maybe if I could turn the resolution all the way up and have a smooth experience, but this is plenty good enough for now). Now if I could just get a study level 172 (stock 172 kinda sucks), life would be perfect :sunglasses:

By default I believe Bing map data is on.
Certainly something to check but not sure how that would improve the VR experience vs. non VR experience.

where are these extras settings ?
in MSFS, VR menus ?
or specific to Reverb G2 ?

Yeah, mine was off for some reason. With it off, it looked pretty much like stock X-Plane with better trees. With it on, it looked like real life. It made all the difference in the world.

When you go to the General Menu in MSFS, there is a side menu on the left of the screen. The first sub-menu is ‘Graphics’. I believe the Bing Maps option is under the ‘Data’ sub-menu. I’ll have to check again the next time I get on to make sure.

Yes, I saw, they are the normal menus where all MSFS parameters sits.
And bing is on, two options on and off.

Read my reply again.
I stated though, your improvement has nothing to do with VR.

Retyping this as a direct reply to your post.

No, it has everything to do with Bing maps. I’m well aware that it is not a VR only thing. For some reason, Bing maps was defaulted to off when the VR was first available (for me anyway). I just thought that they degraded the visuals for the VR release to get more acceptable frame rates. I was extremely disappointed. Now that I have Bing maps on, I’m thrilled with the VR experience. This was just a post to maybe help those people who have been saying that the graphics in VR sucks. Maybe that was their issue (I haven’t been on in a few weeks, so I don’t know… maybe no one’s even having that issue anymore). The point is, VR in this game is bad ■■■.

You right Asobo did set Bing data worl graphics off by default ! But when I turn it on , I get a big FPS loss : I have to tweak this
UPDATED : After reboot of my system => no FPS difference but much more realistic graphics !
Thanks

Great! This completely brings the game to life. I’m not sure why they defaulted it to off for VR.

Mine shows ON but do you need to reset it while IN VR? Or is it the same setting in PC as well?

Mine was always on in PC mode, but would default to off in VR. Not sure why. I switched it back to on while I was in VR, and now it’s always on in both PC and VR.
