You’re probably used to the buggy Asobo implementation of the KAP140?

Hey there, is any sound mod for the WB Cessna 172 available?
The default sounds are quiet and not good overall! I also wish there was a mod.
If it “sounds” like your Audio is “quiet” and “Not good overall”, you might want to check
- Your audio settings
- The Audio system you are using
- The headset you are using
- The Speakers you are using
With things set up correctly, there are very, very few complaints about the excellent Sound Recordings Asobo have done for the MSFS C172 Aircraft.
I do not believe ANY 3rd Party Devs have done a Sound Mod for the Default C172 Aircraft …
**
maybe because its difficult to improve on near Perfection.
**
I believe Asobo spend considerable time, and expense, in getting new C172 Sound for their C172s from Real World C172s - far outside the budget and expertise of most 3rd Party Devs.
If you really need ADDITIONAL enhanced sounds,
maybe check out FS-REALISTIC
“FSRealistic Pro brings a whole new world of immersion into MSFS.
As of today, thousands of users are enjoying FS-Realistic flights.”
The WBsim version is miles ahead of the stock one, agreed!
I found 2 observations though that seem to be different in our RL flying club KAP140s (one in a DA40 and one in a Dakota 236):
- the ALT ARM mode in the RL ones turns on automatically when changing altitudes (no need to press the button), I set an altitude, then press ALT (which puts it into VS mode), set the desired FPM, and that arms ALT ARM automatically (I couldn’t get this to happen in the sim)
- the real units have voice prompts, i.e. a very tormented voice says things like “leaving altitude” when deviating more than 200 (?) feet from the set altitude (regardless if the AP is on or not). The 1000ft beep is also slightly different
The real one is also rather lazy in regards to HDG capture, it will generally be off a few degrees from the hdg bug (unpredictably of course, sometimes overshooting sometimes undershooting) which makes my OCD brain go nuts
Apparently when commanding for example 270deg, anything random between 266-274 is “good enough”
I went in a real one the other day and yeah it’s pretty loud without the headphones on, but sounds nothing like the 414!
I believe the “OLD” KAP140 AP used a simple Bang-Bang system for the heading control. Like a PID without the I & D.
So it would get close to the desired heading, but randomly never quite get there, as there was no Intergral error build up to correct small errors.
GOOD Observation, that has “thanks to you”, now it has not gone unnoticed by the Developers …
Of course it doesn’t, the reference to 414 is to imply doing the same thing (making custom sounds, WWise etc…).
The C172 already has Custom WWise sounds, created by Asobo (or whoever created the C172 for them).
What sounds are you specifically referring to, and exactly what do you expect to be changed and exactly in what way. ?
Nothing, nevermind. Didn’t know Asobo already did that.
My experience with the real C172 shows me that the sound of the Asobo C172 is too “lean”. It is not about volume or C414 roaring, but about the fact that the engine should sound much more “fat”.
Hard to describe. But anyone sitting in the cockpit of the real Cessna knows what I mean.
The sound in the exterior view is pretty good. But I’m not interested in it personally.
You are very welcome!
Let me know if you need some RL validation (on an old KAP140) of some scenarios!

Nice!
I’m interested in this. Any more details about what was changed on the FM?
I agree ! but for now, no…
what is that?
Actualy yes !
Flight Model tweaks are mainly take advantage of new Flight Model Parameters, introduced in SU11, in particular to improve ground handling in crosswind situations.
Stall & Spin characteristic are also improved to match real world.
Most of the other Flight Models improvements over teh standard Asobo C172, were already implemented in the previous version.
For specific details, ask in the WB-SIM DIscord , so the information is shared there.
Not that easy … recently I finally crumbled and got Discord after all (since most support is exclusive to tha channel), but now I repeatedly run into the problem that you need an invite, which is more often expired than not.
