any news on the rj?
Is this project still happening?
Yes. Why wouldn’t it be?
There hasn’t been any update on it since last December which is strange for a not even brand new product. One would think it would progress faster. Also, in the meantime a completely different aircraft (F28) was produced.
I’d also love to hear any news about it, the RJ is on top of my buying list and it’s kind of weird we haven’t got any updates since last year.
There wss a release timetable not long ago, this and the 146 FMS were next after the F28
The F28 was one of the first products they announced though, well before the 146. Annoucement schedules shouldn’t be mistaken for product development.
On one hand this is understandable, on the other this is not a completely new product but a variant of an existing one, which has even been shown as a preview in December. In the last seven months there has been absolutely no information about the RJ. It would be acceptable if they completely sidelined it until the F28 was released, but they could’ve at least communicated something about it. But I hope now that the F28 is out, things will pick up some pace.
I am going to assume there’s a bit of delay because of the complexity of developing a FMS in house or via contract. I say that after observing whats happening about the FMS update of BAe 146, this was predicted to be ready in January and then again June - July when we got the latest update of the plane. But the FMS update was not included. After following some forum threads in just flight forums, it seems the developers are not comfortable giving a timeline for this feature any more.
So from this I’ll speculate that they are having trouble developing a full fledged FMS like UNS1, they were not able to meet their internal timeline expectation because of this. After all calculating LNAV and VNAV paths properly is no trivial task. And in all their other aircraft, the FMS part have been handled by third party products (WT Proline 21, GNS530, GTN 750 etc). Plus there is the autothrottle which has its own complxities.
Hopefully this will get sorted soon because they have a long cue of projects which I am excited about and they will need this type of expertise (F70/F100, A300, B742). Also can’t wait get my hands on the RJ. Regional flying is what I do most in the sim.
You might be right. I rather think that Avro must wait while the 146 still sells after the Xbox release.
That’s certainly a possibility. But that shouldn’t delay the FMS update of the 146 as it will only boost the sales.
Hard to say. I remember them saying that the UNS1 might find its way to the latest update of the 146 and they said that not long before the update was released. So they were close to finishing the UNS1 and that’s couple of months back. Well, I just hope we’re not too far from the Avro’s release. To be honest, with Avro released I don’t care for the UNS1 in the 146 anymore.
I’ll be picking up the AVRO RJ, F28 Professional and the A300B4 (next year hopefully) when they’re released on Xbox.
The BAE146 is my favourite and most flown aircraft in MSFS and although I enjoy other aircraft (Inc PMDG DC6 and 737-800) I always find myself returning to it… I’m looking forward to the AVRO RJ in respect of it’s glass cockpit and modern navigation technology.
Let’s hope it releases this year…
I doub’t we will see the a300b4 next year. I suspect mid to late 2025 in the earliest. Just flight takes their time with the add-ons. F28 came out more than one year after their last airliner, the 146. The A300b4 I suspect is more complicated in terms of systems compared to the 146 and f28. Then there are AVRO RJ and Avro Vulcan in the pipeline before the A300 I suspect.
Hope they don’t forget the Hawk update too ![]()
What happened to AVRO RJ? Is it still planned?
I can’t speak for JF but I can say it is still in testing and it is very polished.
What worries me is that it’s taking so long…
Why does it worry you? (Genuinely interested to know).
Surely, it’s taking time because they are working on getting it right instead of releasing it half-baked.
As I said before, I think they have markenting reasons for the hold. I guess the 146 still sells well. But it’s only my own speculation.
