Just got the call for an RTX3090

He mentioned MC, I looked on the Micro Centers site and they have them, but they do see them to online customers, you have to go to the store and actually pick it up yourself…Closest one for me is about 2 hours out…

Almost $2000 for a video card? I fail to understand the value there. Most games, including msfs, will do just fine running on something half that price.

Lol what ?

Why am I asking others opinions? You do know where you are…right chief?

I have an RTX 2060 Super and have been waiting looong time too upgraded. Well last Tuesday I bit the bullet and ordered an NVIDIA RTX 3080ti Founders Edition. Did I pay a high price? Of course I did.

But I had been shopping and bidding on eBay for a long time with no luck. Finally Tuesday a bid stuck at $1600. I’ve seen they going for well over $2000, so I feel like I got a decent deal.

But now that I bought one, I’m sure that prices will drop like a rock.

So you can all thank me if they prices go down

I was suppose to get it today, but the delivery got delayed until Monday. But that’s okay I’m doing a new build and I get the case and CPU cooler tomorrow. So I’ll just start the build with what I have, which is pretty much everything else.

I don’t see a good reason to wait.

There’s no official news on the 4000 series is there? Only rumors and leaks. Nvidia was just in the news for being the victim of a cyberattack. There’s also now a war in progress. Ukraine is a major supplier to chip manufacturers. Maybe none of this significantly impacts your ability to get a video card, or maybe it exacerbates the ongoing chip shortage and supply chain problems, and delays future gpu releases. This could go on for literally years.

The release of a new GPU line doesn’t suddenly make the supply shortages go away because there still aren’t enough chips being produced, even if there are new designs for them. That’s why Nvidia relaunched it’s 2060 card late last year. I’m assuming they had left over hardware. And even those cards, which are a generation behind, are running high on the price side.

I bought my 3090 in 2020 for $1500 and thought it was a bad deal then, but wanted to splurge for the highest end performance. It’s astounding that PC hardware, among the fastest depreciating items, has actually risen substantially in price years later.

There’s no harm in waiting, as none of us know exactly what the situation is… what you said is true and can happen… but what happens if the new series actually live up to the hype and prices don’t get too crazy. That’s why a wait and see situation is ok in this argument… just wait and see what happens I say. Don’t spend top dollars yet on any card.

Intel…

Is a good reason…

Unless the market situation actually gets worse lol

What?

Intels getting into the gaming GPU market from what I heard… this might affect prices all round.

Just get it can always sell and upgrade. I got my 3080 for a steal and can sell mine still for more than I paid for it.

That might not be true getting at current prices and what might happen to 3000 prices when 4000s come out + intels gpus

I think they’ve got a long road ahead of them before they become a big player in the GPU market, particularly at the higher end of the GPU market. I can’t really see them having a big effect on prices.

I somewhat disagree, Intel might be new but they aren’t unfamiliar with the way things work. There’s not too much info out there yet but let’s all wait and see. I hope I’m right for all our sake.

You have an AMD processor, why don‘t you get an AMD card? They aren‘t cheap but at least available

If people still buy crypto the prices on the GPUs will still be high.

My old i7 4790K-based gaming rig died recently, so I decided to build a new one around an i7 12700K and DDR5 RAM. However, given the insane prices on newer GPU’s, I also decided for now to reuse the RTX 2070 that I bought when MSFS launched.

Now I can taxi around in KJFK and fly over Manhattan with everything set to ULTRA and FPS locked at 40. And that’s with zero stuttering, no matter how much I look around with TrackIR.

I’m constantly bound by GPU, as I knew I would be, but, as I also expected, that doesn’t seem to have any detrimental effect other than a modest, but more than sufficient FPS.

Because I only use the rig for MSFS, I certainly won’t be upgrading the GPU until prices become much lower. MSFS needs highend CPU performance, but the GPU is less critical, as we all know by now.

Edit: My monitor resolution is 1440. In 4K, I suppose it’s a different story.

I have a Strix 3090 OC model also, i’d wait till 4000 series. I know i’ll be upgrading when it comes out
