On this flight, we went live in VR and recreated a set of flights that I did recently in our PA28R-200 from northern Virginia (KHEF) to Pottstown, PA (N47). We took the amazing JustFlight Arrow III on VATSIM and filed the same routes and used the same procedures as I did in real life. VATSIM controllers were awesome, as usual and the flights matched very closely to the real-life ones. On the way back, we didn’t have ATC online as we got closer, so I gave myself the same vectors as I got in real life this past weekend. This made for a very close representation of the actual flights! The only difference was the weather - I always use live weather in the sim and there was not as much haze covering the east coast of the USA as there was when I flew the actual flights. Still, the low visibility made for a very challenging RNAV approach into N47 which is a small airport.
I am constantly amazed at how good this simulator is at recreating real-world flights - and with VATSIM controllers online, it is even more immersive! As always, we had fun in the chat during cruise - it’s always more fun when others are along for these flights!
