Hi! Just wondering .. I’m flying the DH2 in Alaska.. picked the plane with floats.. I noticed that some of the water is… water, and some of the water is ice… does the simulator know the difference? If I land on the ice should I put the gear down?
The sim should know the difference allowing for a gear down landing on ice. I haven’t tried it in the DH2 though yet.
Thanks Skip! I landed with gear up.. sounded like a water landing.. hearing nothing but water swooshing.. however, AFTER I landed I put the gear down and it raised my plane up so it was now riding on the ice :)..
I think you were right, I should have just kept the gears down.
It lands just fine on those snow covered lakes with floats and the wheels up. But the sim doesn’t treat the surface like solid ground or water. Something in between. You won’t bin up and down like on water and it’s got more friction than water. I haven’t tried landing on snow covered ground with floats though.
