Landing direction

do i need to land on runways a certain way ? ie can i land on them from any direction.

aircraft land or take off against the wind

you should land and takeoff into the wind

thanks for the reply… i did not know that being new to flight sim, is there a way of telling which way the wind is blowing. might be a daft question but iam still learning.

irl listen to ATIS tells u all about the airport’s situation,
however in this sim ATIS often doesnt work or can be tuned in much too late …

At controlled aerodromes ATC will tell you the landing direction. At non-towered airfields you can pick and choose. I usually take the most convenient runway so I do not have to fly a pattern. Wind doesn´t seem to be a major factor in this sim - my impression so far.

good answers, i need to pay more attention to the ATC… and lean how to read the compass a bit better to get my heading correct…

and if no ATC and there is a wind sock, fly by it and check - windsock will point to the end of the runway you need to land from. Aircraft with the G1000 have a setting to add the current wind to the glass cockpit display. Add ons such as Little Nav Map show current wind.

Hey . If you are still looking for an easy way to tell, if you can find the wind for the airport in question, it should give you the heading… say 231 @ whatever speed. Runway numbers are magnetic heading, but rounded up. so a runway heading of 231 would be runway 23. so the aim of the game is to find the runway that’s closest to the wind… if your airport has runway 05 and 23… then a wind of 180 would be closer to 23 (18 is only 5 away from 23, but is 13 away from 5).

Then you just need to make sure that runway is an appropriate size and surface for your aircraft.
