Laptop spec help - Black Friday

Im self employed and need a touchscreen laptop for work, which is why there is a touch screen element.

Buy the touchscreen budget laptop for work, save a little longer and get desktop for msfs 2024

I kind of agree with Pilotfirst9999. That touch-screen is kind of the long pole in your tent.

It’s a very rare and compromised touch screen lap-top that will nicely support MSFS adequately. Other games, perhaps. But a general lack of good, efficient cooling often becomes the bill-payer in those machines.

Quite interesting discussion here, though…

The 8GB VRAM might be problematic.
Sure, people use the sim with 8GB… but there are lots of reports of the sim drastically slowing down (like, from 40 FPS to 5 FPS) when the VRAM gets filled up.

My system sees 10-12 GB fairly regularly, but then, I run 4K (mostly) Ultra settings.
Maybe you won’t have a problem if you run 2K at lower graphics settings.
Hopefully, you won’t have to run in 1080P (HD) mode. Some folks might be OK with that lower resolution. I’d go crazy.

I run on a 1080p 45in TV and regular use 10-14GB of my 4080 Supers 16GB and will get stutters at detailed airports with detailed aircraft. It’s usually only a couple while panning the camera but they’re there. I run most things on ultra and LOD’s maxed out so there is room for me to improve frame rates but I like the looks and regularly get 50+FPS.

8GB will be your biggest bottleneck for that laptop next to thermals

Please feel free to let me know if you run into any of the issues described above after your Yoga finally arrives and you get MSFS2024 loaded and up and running. I’d be happy to help you tune it up.

You knew that you were going to have to compromise right out of the gate. But, I believe that even with your less than ideal specs. we can still get your sim humming along happily at a solid 40FPS with reasonably scaled back settings at 2K.

Keep in mind, I don’t have a 4k capable display or VR and I avoid the airliners like the plague!
Your not alone in the world of compromise!

Thanks and I expect will take up the offer, I havent run any MSFS since last century, Used to use a flopy version at the local library in 1986 where me and a mate sat at PCs next to each other and if the drive started to whirl we would put the disk into that one. I slowly got my own copy and and remeber getting the first pgotorealistic scenery, Then life happened. So anything will be better than what I used t have and thought was fantastic!
