Latest patch impacting mainthread performance?

Mainthread performance appears to have been impacted in the last patch which is resulting in micro stutters that had previously been addressed. Regardless of data and graphics settings, main thread latency remains high and one CPU core appears to flatline at 100%.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

I’m not having this issue, I did a one and half hour flight this morning and I have to say my performance has never been better, I’m using a TV at 1080p as main monitor and a 1400x900 monitor for TBM 930 panels displaying 5 gauges and also 2 tablets, one using Spacedesk and the other Matric my main thread is around 9ms and GPU around 14ms.

I7-9700k @5ghz RTX 3060 12gb and 32Gb 3200mhz ram.

For reference I’m using Nvidia super resolution DLAA and tlod and olod both at 200 on mostly ultra settings. Using DX12. I’m getting 60-70fps with these settings.

hmm. I’m usually in the 40-50fps range. 90min into a flight in the King Air at 12000ft. Medium cloud below me. I’ve just dropped to an FPS of 11. Never had this happen before.

If the data and graphics settings are changed but there is no change in the main thread latency, then something other than graphics is causing the main thread latency. If one CPU core is at 100% and the others aren’t, then there is something running that is preventing Windows from load balancing. You have to find out what processes are running on that core, which process is driving CPU so high, and what that process is doing.

If the problem process is not MSFS (and my guess is that it is a different process), it WILL slow down MSFS and everything else in the system as long as that one core is at 100%.

Interesting. After experiencing a drop to 11fps I quit the flight and rebooted PC. Started the same flight and the 3 hour flight stayed at just under 50fps. God knows what was happening but I do suspect windows was doing something.

This isn’t the case as the physical CPU cores are effectively idle prior to the game launching. Once launched one particular core is instantly pinned at 100% utilisation.

I was struggling with some drawbacks as well and eventually I cleared about all the Nvidia control panel settings and ordered them in the sim instead. It sure became a lot better thereafter.

Using Vsync and latency+boost in the insim settings. Most high, some ultra.

Currently only these settings set in Nvidia (with ansio filtering x16, and off in the sim)

Something is SO off here. DX11 - lower fps than usual, and seemed locked to 60fps (no vsync used). DX12, microstutter when tilting aircraft, horizon movements stutters all the time. Also locked to low fps, also a lot of weird indications on the graphic part of Developers. Something is totally off.

Same issue for me.

When MSFS starts, it does a lot of setup operations involving file accesses, registry queries, and network communications. It communicates with other programs like Gaming Services, Game Launcher, and the GPU app. These are all done while displaying videos, photos, and music to keep our eyes and ears occupied. Most of the activity is determined by the “official” packages and the Community folders we have. Also, there may be 3rd party apps launched by MSFS. In other words, probably no MSFS installations are identical.

If MSFS is running although very slow, I’ll assume the startup is successful. If you are starting or using any 3rd party apps, check to see if they are started and operating correctly. It is possible that the communication between the app and MSFS is not working correctly causing the 100% CPU.

The other thing to check are issues with hardware drivers. Check the sound drivers and all peripheral drivers to see if they are current. The default Windows sound drivers are from previous Windows versions and are very old. Check with the motherboard manufacturer for the latest drivers.

I hope this helps narrow down the source of the problem.

There also seems to be a potential issue when MSFS is the active window.
