Just like last time the launcher is trying to reinstall the whole game, I am surprised this has not been solved by now.
Have you reported it? Because it definitely does not do that for everyone.
Yes I have reported it twice, a lot of people is having the same issue. I did not have it during the last patch but some of my friends experienced it, now it is my turn xD
Are you sure? Because the update that the MS store (or steam) pulls down is about 650MG in size. That is just an update to the launcher. Then when the new launcher is launched, it then connects and updates the japan content. This kind of content delivery is not unheard of.
On my system, once the sim is launched and it sees the update of the Japan content, it then downloaded 8gb. That is not a full re-install, and is about what I would expect for this kind of content upgrade.
Did you change the directory structure of the main content folder by chance?
I installed the sim in D:\Flight Simulator and i added my own folder under that folder. (A temp folder for disabled scenery). The installer emptied my whole content folder and started downloading the full game all over.
Nope, I have not touched anything, I have no idea why this is happening, it just showed a 95.79Gb update. I have a good internet connection (600mb/s) so no problem, but it is still annoying
Ok than maybe something else it the problem.
I have the exact same thing as you (redownload 95.79GiB), but it didn’t happen the last time.

Oh same here, it did not happen last time, it did happen to some friends though
If this already happened to you twice, it sounds like there’s some thing (firewall?) preventing MSFS from validating your installation information.

Nope, this is the first time for me! Last patch was ok for me but not for a few friends
Now it makes me nervous because I haven’t downloaded it yet…
Same problem for me, nothing changed i closed the game to download the update on steam. Update was 330ish mo, started the game, and surprise 95gb to download.
Tomorrow Japan, i will fly over your mountains !

Same for me. I verified integrity of game files in Steam to check for updates, and then I launched the sim just to see a reinstallation
Do NOT verify the integrity of files if you have the Steam version! I did it once and I had to to reinstall 110Gb of the game after. I also had to redownload the Orbx Landmarks London City Pack. Because MFSF uses its own installer it seems that using the Steam verification deletes stuff.

Yes this is probably the issue, i checked the integrity of the files in Steam.

I deleted everything and ended up making a clean install, now I only have 2 planes, the C152 and C172 in the game, great…
I launched the game after veryfying the caché, and now it is downloading AGAIN 95GB
I don’t know if my issue is related, but the patch is showing as being 8.78GiB for me, but the progress bar is full and it’s still downloading data, currently at 33.19GiB, but here’s a screen shot I took a few minutes ago…
Maybe you’re lucky and your game is already downloading patch 4,5,6 and 7
