"Legacy" mode is still not working properly on Consoles

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Every time I start the game, “Lock” interaction mode is active even when “Legacy” is selected from the previous session and the one still showing in the settings.

In order for “Legacy” to work again, the user must cycle between the two options.

After that, “Legacy” remains active and working properly for the rest of the session, until the user closes the game.

And next time the game is started, the same problem appears, “Lock” mode is active even though “Legacy” is still the one showing as selected in the settings.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Every time I start the video game.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Select “Legacy” as the Cockpit Interaction System.

Close the game completely.

Start the game again, “Legacy” remains “selected” in the settings menu, but when starting a session in Free Flight, the actual interaction mode is “Lock”.

Go to settings, and cycle between the two options, and select “Legacy” again.

Now “Legacy” mode works again for the rest of the session, until the player closes the game again.

MEDIA

After starting the game, “Legacy” is showing as selected, as I wanted from the previous gaming session.

But in reality, the “Lock” interaction mode is the one active, as shown by the blue highlights.

After cycling between the two options, and selecting “Legacy”, it starts working properly again.

Hi @AdriaDavid

When you say it is still not working properly, is this due to behaviour experiences prior to the SU6 Beta, or is this a new regression only found within the SU6 Beta?

Cheers

Legacy mode didn’t work at all in previous SUs and always reverted back to lock mode when you exited the menu. Now we can use Legacy but after we restart the Xbox, we need to go back into this menu to set it to Lock and then back to Legacy for the next flight. In the background it seems to be setting itself back to Lock after a restart but still shows as Legacy

Hello! “Legacy” mode was not available on console prior to SU6, it was not selectable (when you tried to activate it, went back to “Lock” mode directly).

SU6 brought a fix for that, and now console users can select “Legacy” and it works as intended during that gaming session.

The reason I say is still not working properly, it’s because although now we can select it (and works during the current session), the actual mode goes back to “Lock” every time we boot the game, similar to the previous behavior.

The workaround is to cycle between the two options, and then Legacy works again but only for the current session.

What is even funnier, the tooltips pop-up in legacy freelook if enabled in the settings… In my impression it’s still catch my freelook in the cockpit - but invisibly. Long way ahead of you Asobo…

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

Only restarted the sim once, but it stayed engaged in Legacy for me.

Edit: on second restart it switched back to Lock, though.

Wait! We have Legacy now on consoles?! How did I miss this? Fantastic news. I mean, yes, switching back after each boot is a pain but I’ll do it gladly. Not the place but…THANK YOU Asobo/MS!

it took them 2 years… :person_facepalming:

For the people who want ‘legacy’ mode on consoles, I have a question:

  • Do you actually want the legacy interaction mode, or do you simply want to get rid of the blue/yellow highlights that appear in the lock interaction mode.

Me personally, I actually prefer the Lock interaction mode, I just hate the highlights. Simply adding a toggle for the highlights would solve the entire issue for me.

  • I want the ‘Legacy’ interaction mode
  • I want the ‘Lock’ interaction mode, but without the blue/yellow highlights

Sounds like Asobo did too, we never knew if it’s a big or a design choice because they ignored us

I’m really looking forward to this actually working for once, I thought it was dead a buried like headphone simulation

The problem with “Lock” is that when using a controller, the controls can stop working completely if you hover over anything that can be interacted with.

This doesn’t happen with “Legacy”, which creates the perfect combination to use a controller to fly the aircraft, and a mouse to interact with the cockpit items.

But I agree that an option to disable the Blue Highlights while using “Lock” mode is a great addition. For me personally, “Legacy” is still the best way to enjoy playing with controller and mouse.

I feel the same on the use of Legacy. The only thing it is missing is the mouse changing to show what it’s about to do as has been stated in another thread e.g. changing to a hand with finger pointer for pushing a button or various arrows to show which way it is about to spin a knob or flick a switch. But I can live without that if it means I don’t have to put up with the blue highlight and the control locking

Never worked on console for 2020 either. Option always appears but locked somewhere in the backend, I have raised tickets on zandesk and posts on here before and where all deleted or rejected

I use Xbox with the standard pad+mouse and this is the only issue I have.

looking at YouTubers on say PMDG 737 whilst I use the mouse for switches, having the hand or up/down/clockwise/counter clockwise arrow that PC gets from legacy would be a godsend.

looking a the manual for pmdg dc-6 for example from 2020 they say this is just not an option for console so was known about even before the WASM issues

Additional feedback regarding cockpit interaction:

Since I use a mouse for cockpit operation on PS5, I would also like to suggest an improvement for the interaction feedback.

The large interaction labels that appear when hovering over switches and knobs can sometimes cover important instruments and displays, especially in complex aircraft and airliners.

A more PC-like approach would be preferable: a small cursor or interaction arrow with a subtle highlight of the selected control, without large pop-up labels.

An option to choose between:

  • Full interaction labels
  • Minimal (cursor only)
  • Off

would make cockpit operation much cleaner and more immersive for users who prefer mouse interaction.
