When losing connection to Bing data, there seems to me to be absolutely no reason to have a message flash up and stay there for what I want to say is approaching 20 seconds, in big red letters, right in the middle of the screen. Nor does there seem to me to be any need for the game to knock off Bing data AS A SELECTED OPTION in the menus, necessitating that I then go out of the sim, into the menus, turn it back on again, then wait for how ever long it needs to load all the Bing data back up, then resume the sim again, especially when I’m recording.
Could we not just have a green dot in the corner that turns red or something equally discreet? Please? And please no more turning off options in the menus. Just leave it, the user turned it on for a reason, let Bing just come back when it’s able without users having to go into the menus. They could be livestreaming, trying to record the same flight for the 6th time, each of the previous time ruined by loss of Bing data, things like that. It could be incredibly frustrating to such people who may or may not be me.
Thank you for the suggestion. I voted for that item. It probably does cover my own request. Did he say anything about bing being turned off in the menus? Doesn’t really matter.
Messages such as loss of connectivity, bandwidth and resolution (Always When You’re Landing!) prevent normal game progress, when the messages could be on any side of the screen, or better yet, not at all. An icon would be enough.
As yesterday’s MSFS worldwide server outage illustrated there is great desire by simmers to eliminate that annoying notice in the middle of the screen.
Reportedly this has been requested of Asobo several years ago, but no action has been taken.
Hi @ColinM99912,
This was discussed in the June 24th 2024 Development Livestream. The transcript can be read here:
You can scroll down to the section where Martial responds to this question:
The red flag connection loss message, along with the green flag messages, tend to display in the center of the screen while flying. It can become annoying. Any chance of them displaying, say, in the upper right-hand corner instead?
[Martial]. So let’s only talk about the UI first. Well yes, we’ve not, we’ve noticed that, and it’s going to be fixed for FS2024. Unfortunately, we’ve got layouts. It means that on Flight Sim 2020, the screen has been divided in areas on which we are displaying different layers of information. And the bad thing would be to reorganize that and to have some messaging being written over the other one. So I don’t think we are going to change this display on FS2020, but it has been completely rethought on FS 2024 because of that.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. At the very least it is known about.
Please understand that I’m not voicing this frustration at you specifically, @SmotheryVase665. I could not care less about a lost connection especially as I’m about to touch down. I don’t want to see it anywhere on the screen. Asobo are yet again demonstrating they are incapable of delivering a good UX as they’re unable to think of any other possible solutions other than the most destructive solution which locks it behind a new product.
My feedback for a better solution: introduce an option in the menu that allows players to decide whether or not they want to see this notification. Empower players to make that decision. Why is this such a hard concept for Asobo to grasp?
