Asobo has made the decision for a cloud-based solution for FS 2024 which involves streaming of aircraft and scenery.
The result is immersion-breaking and doesn’t work.
Whenever you taxi in after landing or if you fly over an airport, the AI aircraft load in at the last minute which looks ridiculous. It also causes major stuttering.
It is completely immersion-breaking.
Additionally, it is immersion-breaking when you do a flight and when you are on approach, the airport loads late with blurry textures. See this video.
If MSFS 2024 is going to stream content, then at the very least, the destination needs to be fully loaded, with all buildings, runways and aircraft well before final approach.

Disagree. I’ve had very little issues with streaming. Certainly nothing that has ruined my experience or immersion.
Personally I think streaming is a great idea. The amount of space saved on my PC, and the speed at which I was able to download the game and launch it is way ahead of FS20.

Watch the video and try to tell me that’s acceptable.

Hard to argue with the video in all honesty

Ah so just because your experience is good then it should be left alone. The majority of people have issues with streaming. I can’t even get the rolling cache to work.

I’m seeing similar problems, even starting on the runway waiting for gauges and runway markings to load.
It might get better with time, once the initial interest begins to wane. However FS2020 still suffers in a similar way, even with the limited streaming it requires, so I’m not too hopeful.
When they announced FS2024, I was surprised they were pushing the “thin client” so much in view of the trouble they were having even at that time with FS2020 streaming. It was a bad decision then, and is a bad decision now.

This certainly isn’t any better for me.

I disagree too. The streaming is working well for me, and pulling 30Mbps max over new areas which is not bad at all. In loading in there are a few seconds while everything settles down, then good to go.
I’ve also had no issues with photogrammetry although not extensively checked. Edinburgh loss the best it has ever looked for me, in 2020 it was terrible even after the later works updates.
The only issue i see with streaming is that the experience appears patchy and diagnosing that will be harder as there is an additional server variable in the loop - so are the issues server based or local? To an extent we had that with 2020 relating to weather, AI traffic etc, but obviously more pronounced here.

In what way can’t you get the rolling cache to work? I’m not even sure how you can tell?

You can also turn that around
Just because you have an issue with it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. It might be your internet connection, your shaky wifi situation, other users on your network using your bandwidth, bad drivers, etc.
2020 was already largely streaming based. The only difference is the aircraft models, which you will be able to download once the marketplace is open.
For scenery/terrain it’s simply not feasable to have 3.5 PB locally on disk. Just like 2020.
2024 takes about 1/3 of the time to start compared to 2020 consistently.

Just because it’s working well for you, doesn’t mean it’s not an issue. I have seen more than enough comments along the lines of what I have posted to say that it should be investigated.
Also, do you think the video I have referred to is acceptable ?

No one is suggesting this. What I am suggesting is a change in the code which prioritizes loading of the departure and destination assets from the servers so that the scenery and the AI aircraft are there when you get there.

I’m getting blurry textures…nothing serious but the scenery doesn’t always sharpen up. I look at my download rate and it is minimal. My (not great) download speed allowance could easily handle it. It seems like the information or streaming isn’t getting through at any reasonable speed.

Not sure if everything is streaming related, there are also lots of LOD issues. But hopefully local storage for scenery (airports) and airplanes is enabled soon.
The argument of 3PB is the total data used to make MSFS2024. Nobody needs that storage and nobody needed that in 2020 either. If you are a collector you probably need 10TB at most.

I accept what you say, but if that is the problem what’s going to change? there will be internet connection issues, there will be shaky WiFi there will be other users and probably bad drivers.
Such is life. It’s definitely not an ideal situation.

I’d prefer to be in the cockpit and waiting for things to load than staring at a loading screen.

Even when you are on finals and see what is shown on the video ?

No, because that’s obviously not what I was referring to.
What’s in the video is definitely not good, and fortunately something I’ve not experienced. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with streaming in principle, the fact that it varies a lot between users shows it does work, and personally I feel the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Seems to me we’ve traded hard drive space for bandwidth. I have lots of HD space, but not much bandwidth, so it’s a poor trade for me.
Best solution would be to allow a choice: “thin client” or regular install. This would make everyone happy, just the choice.

And I say the fact that it varies a lot between users shows it doesn’t work.
One of the very basic requirements of a “flight simulator” is that when you are flying in the virtual world, assets like scenery and aircraft are there when you need them to be.
