Hi all… Today, I have completed SU5 updates and made some flights. But there is something strange here on my side… My PC specs: Ryzen 3600x cpu- radeon 5600xt gpu - 32 GB 3200 Ram- nvme - old monitor (1080p 60hz). Before update, I could not fly over paris. FPS was very low (5 to 10) although my settings were medium. (dev fps counter was saying "Limited by GPU).. That is normal. But after SU5 update, (again in 1080p of course) with HIGH END settings, i can fly over over Paris with 35 fps. Even, I set everything to “ULTRA” still FPS is over 35. (Does not matter vsync is off or on and fps limited to 30) . As last, i tried with rendering scale 200% and everything to “ULTRA” then my Fps dropped to 12. During all these tests, as you can see on following screenshots, I never get a “Limited by GPU” warning in dev mode fps counter. It is “Limited by mainthread” all time. Is it normal?
I was getting something similar in the one flight I’ve managed to make since the patch. Pre-SU5 the monitor would always show I was limited by GPU. Post-SU5 it is almost constantly showing that I’m limited by “mainthread” on a i9 10850k. That’s in VR on medium graphics settings, flying over Bristol. (Which is a lot smaller and less performance hungry than Paris.)
Yes you limited by cpu now, cause Asobo turned down the visuals a lot so the gpu has less to work.
So, as I thought. We paid fps by visuals?
It is normal right now, but incorrect. As you can see, the FPS counter doesn’t measure the GPU rendering time at all, it’s been at zero all the time since SU5. So for the logic of the FPS display, 0.0 ms is less than th 10-20ms of the main thread, and hence “Limited by GPU” is never shown.
Thanks for info. If i understood right, there is a bug and what is limiting factor now is not shown right…
Completely wrong. They reduced the cpu load. But for VR you should always still be limited by render thread sure to huge resolution.
Yeah, but as it seems, it’s just the GPU that isn’t showing up correctly. Everything else looks like it’s displayed just fine. The render scale test you did mostly affects your GPU, so when the fps go down with increasing render scale, you’re definitely GPU limited.
