The way MSFS currently works, UNLESS YOU LIMIT FRAMERATE, either your CPU or GPU (or both if the system is “balanced” for your use and settings) will be running at max. Ergo, if you do not want that and you want headroom, the only way to achieve that is to limit FPS. That is of course kinder on the hardware.

And even in that case, I still consider a balanced system to be desirable as you will stress both components equally “lightly” and you will have similar headroom in both. Isn’t that a good thing?

With the obvious caveat that “Your Mileage May, (and likely will), Vary”, that makes a lot of sense.

What confused me, (and perhaps others), was the supposition that equally maxed-out hardware would be “the sweet spot”.  (Which is great if you’re using your system to heat your house. )

To me, as in “AFAIK” or “IMHO”, it doesn’t make sense to have the entire system running at “red-line” constantly.

Now, I will be the first to admit that I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, so I was, (and still am), curious how continuously running your system maxed-out can be “sweet”.  Didn’t the crypto-miners already try that?   Or am I missing something?

I am currently with an RTX 3080 and Ryzen 7 3700X running 4K at essentially all ultra with 300 TLOD and 200 OLOD.
