Well, limited by main thread means that your CPU is struggling to keep up (the main thread runs on one of the cores of your CPU).
Can you list what CPU is in your laptop, or post the model of the laptop here? If the CPU is simply too slow, it wouldn’t make sense to upgrade RAM etc.
That’s actually impressive performance for those specs.
I’d save some $$$ and grab a new(er) computer to run the software on. This program uses nearly half of the 32GB I have, and 70%+ of the 8GB of VRAM I have on my GPU.
Haha well this laptop is like a year and 2 months old… so not quite ready to upgrade to a whole new PC just yet
That’s not too bad actually. Was expecting something way older.
How are temperatures looking? Maybe it’s throttling down a bunch due to temperatures (a common issue with laptops)
yeh, if it’s only running at 2.4GHz, that explains the performance, it’s most likely limited by temperature (93 C), as said, a common issue for laptops (and why for gaming/simming people generally prefer a desktop system).
Maybe you can look into a cooling pad. I’ve heard from some laptop flyers here on the forum that that helped them out in some instances.
High temperatures = lower clockspeeds = worse performance.
Yep… 93C won’t quite boil water, but it’ll make good coffee!
Awesome, thank you for the insight! I appreciate it
Limited by main thread…
Hi there, I’m also really frustrated. I’m using the following system and already tried the “Process lasso” trick (deactivating the Windows dynamic Thread prioritization) and deactivating cpu-virtualiziation in my bios, does not work for me…
Getting around 28 fps on 1080p with RTX 3080… yes max settings but thats with the latest up-to-date-hardware…
Does anyone have an idea to some sort activate multithreading by another workaround?

Hello everyone, this topic is old, but is anyone else still having this issue…
I got a:
i9-10850k running at 3.6Ghz due to temp, cant run it at turbo of 4.7…
RTX 3070
16 GB RAM 3600Mhz Dual Channel
1080p
Running High graphics.
Im getting LIMITED BY MAINTHREAD, and I see its my 2nd core out of my 10 that is at 100%, in the FlyByWire, I am stuck at 30-45fps… and for my system, I defo want more than that. Anyone got any advice? Because I defo do not need to upgrade my cpu, my cpu is well capable.
Welcome… but can you please stop to copy-paste your point into multiple topics ( e.g. , e.g. , e.g. ) ! thanks.
Without exact knowledge of your settings, we can not say much. Often the users gave also wrong informations, like the former post in which the user reported 1080p but posted a screenshot about 1440p ( like you, also in different topics, seems contagious ) , so please also share screenshots if possible.
Generally there are existing FAQs and also community HowTo’s you can check, e.g. :
Beside of these it sounds strange that you can not use your CPU in normaly frequency range. Without the normal usage of the turbo, you have of course less performance CPU wise.
Also , just in case, if you use the Dx12-Beta feature, switch back to Dx11 setting. And try MSFS without any external tools or mods, only then we can compare performance and can be sure that nothing is caused from it.
