After the recent patch, I see on some cases where there model imported from Google maps, the fps will be halved and on the fps window, it will show limited by rdr thread, has anyone an idea about it?
I just installed the USA update. From 60-90ish frames down I went to 25ish.
I have 9900k 4.9 / RTX2080ti / 32GB 3200. This should be plenty to run this game.
You are not alone
There’s your problem right there. Google Maps scenery is terrible. The data is NOT optimized in the slightest for MSFS.
Do yourself a favour and don’t use scenery that’s ripped from Google. Nothing good will come of it.
EDIT: It you’re willing to accept the performance hit, then by all means fill your Community folder with Google rips, but you have to expect huge performance hits as a result
The scenery itself aint terrible, it looks good for Googlemaps use. The amount of useless polygons and textures those models use is amazing though. I’ve seen a Stonehenge with millions of polygons for a few rocks with a 150mb .dds texture…
Just to clarify, when I said their scenery is ‘terrible’, I did mean for polygon and texture counts and size, and not quality. Clearly Google data is of great quality, but it’s meant to be run in their app, not a flight simulator of the complexity of MSFS. Google Maps doesn’t need high frame rates or the processing horsepower that MSFS needs. In this application, it’s terrible. For performance.
If someone rips models out of Google, optimizes them in Blender, and brings them into MSFS properly, that’s one thing. But the majority of Google scenery packs out there are made by unskilled kiddies who watched a basic YouTube tutorial and decided they wanted their home town in sim, then shared their work on one of these 3rd party sites.
There are some airports that just have horrible performance, even with stock data. EDDF is a known one. Another complete slug is Charles de Gaulle. KLAX and KJFK are also poor performers. Nothing seems to have been done about them so far.
I tested with only Aerosoft EDDK (without any mods, only Aerosoft EDDK), the issue is as well visible there , however in less extent as EDDF. I am pretty sure there is something wrong somewhere though
I too was having these issues, lower fps at/over airports, studders in high gen areas (NYC/LAX/CDG/LHR, etc. I followed a msfs performance tips guide which directed me to change the windows page sys file to equal the amount of ram I have (32GB-3733MHZ)-CPU/3800X GPU/5700XT sim on M2 drive.
I run at 2880x1440p at high settings with clouds on Ultra. A few settings relating to the drone camera off as I don’t use it. When I now fly over those same areas I start at the runway let it settle for about 20 secs. FPS 30-35 with clouds in the sky. Very Important - turn of the VFR map in the settings when in the cockpit, you will gain more fps and the studders for me went away. When I fly over say NYC my fps are around 30-35 but sometimes dips in the high 20’s for a few secs. Other thing I did was on the MSfightsimulator.exe, I checked Disable full screen opt. and override high dpi settings. Those things has helped me alot. I hope the next update will increase performance or move the sim forward. Sim runs pretty good right now.
