GotFriends Development – Mid-Summer Update

Hey everyone!

As our “Month of Soaring” comes to a close, we wanted to take this final weekend to sincerely thank the community for the absolutely phenomenal reception on our AS33Me Project. The team are thrilled that your first experience was a good one, and hope to continue using your feedback to further refine gliding in Microsoft Flight Simulator! Since the release of the AS33Me, we saw significantly more simmers gliding across MSFS 2020 / 2024, a lot more soaring visibility on twitch.tv, and a lot more buzz around our in-sim gliding communities like Sim Soaring Club, Diamond Soaring, WeSimGlide and much more. SU3 is on the horizon and the patch notes indicate some enhancements to refine the gliding experience. Our team hope its just the beginning of expanding our digital soaring community as the experience continues to evolve!

(Screenshot taken somewhere in the Western Himalayas—likely Himachal Pradesh. I was so locked in on ridge hopping, I completely lost track of where I was!)

I also want to personally extend a huge thank you to our streaming friends at FloxTrot’s Hangar, TheGreatFishoo, WildRiverBushLeague, OohCando, WestCoastWilly, ItzNorCally, JamJamAllTheWay, NotSlaamry, BurstixTV and others for sharing that stream presence with the community. Its been awesome joining you all on soaring expeditions late at night after work. If you guys have not yet checked out their channels on twitch, you’re missing out on a lot of fun!

What’s Next at GotFriends?

We’re wrapping up some post-launch quality-of-life updates for our gliders, and soon we’ll be shifting our focus to the Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen this August.

Here’s a ((very early)) sneak peek of a work-in-progress steam gauge panel, inspired by the analogue setup of the Aeroprakt A22 Foxbat. While most A32s come with current generation G3X or Dynon glass suites, analogue variants can be factory-equipped on request, and our Aeroprakt USA sales representative loved the idea of giving simmers both options in one package! I personally grew up simming on analogue instruments, flying a lot of Cessna 172 in FS9, as with many simmers here in our community. When I did my first IRL flight in a 172, it felt like second nature. We want to ensure simmers can still enjoy this trainer both ways in our modern sim platforms.

And last but certainly not least!~

Some more details on what might be our team’s sleeper crown jewel of the year: the 1940s Taylorcraft BC-12D.

This aircraft marks our team’s first shot at honoring the roots of taildraggers and bush flying. It will have all the love and attention you guys have come to expect with our bush aircraft. A full suite of options to kit your T-Craft with:

- 17" Vintage wheels with optional sleek wheel pants

- 26" Alaskan bush tires for off-grid landings

- Federal 1500 skis for winter ops

- EDO 1320 floats for water adventures

It’s everything that makes the “D” in BC12-Deluxe feel like comfort. Stunning soft custom upholstered fabric interiors, hand wrapped leather covers on a chromed Yoke, an additional 6 gallon wingtip tank to get that extra distance. We hope it makes for the ideal hand propped 40s era VFR explorer to fly along side the J3s, Champs and Cap10s we currently enjoy in sim!

Thanks again to everyone for the continued support. We hope you’re all having an awesome summer, with great weather, tasty BBQ, and good company.

See you in our digital skies!
— Mykrode & the GotFriends Team

End of the “Month of Soaring”
But the journey continues…

Before we dive in, we want to quickly address a few questions we know are on everyone’s mind:

  • What was up with that release cycle?
  • Where is the Discus-2c MSFS 2024 Upgrade?
  • Where is the Towing Expansion Pack?

First, a huge thank you to everyone who purchased the updated Discus-2c Premium or AS 33 Me this past month. Your support and feedback are what allow us to keep pushing the fidelity of our gliders forward. Every purchase helps us dedicate more time and resources to future projects and updates. We’re truly grateful for this community and especially for those who continue to stand behind our small team.

Now, let’s talk about what’s next. The AS 33 Me was our first shot at an “Expert Level” glider, and while the launch was successful, we know it felt a little scattered. Between dual-sim support, upgrade vs. compatibility questions, longer waiting times, and marketplace delays, it was confusing at times. We’re sorry for that. Honestly, it’s the nature of the sim world right now—two active simulators, multiple marketplaces, and new upgrade and rental systems make things overwhelming for everyone, including us.

Moving forward, all releases will be launched at the same time for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 and across our website, Contrail, and the in-game marketplace. Internally this will slow us down a bit, but for you, it means a smoother “Day 1” experience no matter where you buy or which simulator you use.

As for the Discus-2c MSFS 2024 Upgrade, we’ve decided to temporarily pause that project. The AS 33 Me release revealed a few issues—particularly with the flight model—that we need to fix first. This has shifted our timeline, so we’ll be revisiting the Discus-2c Upgrade after the Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen is released. Expect a month or two delay, but rest assured it will be a free upgrade when it’s ready. In the meantime, you can still fly the Discus-2c 2020 package in MSFS 2024 thanks to forward compatibility.

The towing expansion pack is a different story. We’ve found some serious problems with the towing systems in both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. We’ve shared our recommendations with Microsoft/Asobo, and they’ve already confirmed in their recent dev stream that they’re actively working on improvements. For now, we’ll continue to include the Wilga Towplane, CyberWinch, and Ford F-150 Winch Truck with both the AS 33 Me and Discus-2c. The full towing expansion pack will stay on hold until the simulator itself receives its towing update. There’s no point in doubling our workload when we know major changes are on the horizon.

Thank you for your patience as we work through these growing pains. Right now, we’re finishing up the AS 33 Me Version 1.0.4 update for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. This update features a completely overhauled flight model and has gone through extensive testing to bring it closer than ever to the real aircraft. It’s nearly ready, and we can’t wait for you to experience it. Our test flights are now matching the real-world aircraft down to the decimal. Exciting times for glider pilots!

Cheers,
Got Friends

AS 33 Me | Next Update Information
Targeting Sunday for GF Website & Contrail, Marketplace to Follow

Beta Testing Update:
If everything continues to exceed our expectations, we will be releasing the latest update of the AS 33 Me this Sunday to the public. Of course, this is solely up to our testing teams and we will update you all if the plans change.

  • Overhauled Sound Pack for Ground Sounds, Wind Sounds, Drag Sounds, Slip Sounds, Motor Sounds, and Lift Sounds
  • Overhauled Custom Drag Coding for Bugs, Rain and Surface Contamination
  • Fixed Major Issue where Slew Caused Excessive Drag Build-Up
  • Fixed Major Issue with Electrical Motor Bus Arming System
  • Fixed Elevator Trim not Spawning in the Neutral Position
  • Fixed Speed-to-Fly (STF) Curves on the LX Family with 15m and 18m Variants
  • Updated LX Family to Version 2.2.0. with Various Stability Fixes
  • Separated Package Names for 2020 and 2024 Projects for Community Folder Clarification

Air Brake Reminder:
We’ve chosen to keep the Air Brakes fully open (100%) on spawn. This acts as a “Parking Brake” to prevent the glider from rolling on uneven terrain. In MSFS 2024, it’s also helpful for pre-flight inspection visibility if they are open. This applies to runway spawns as well, to avoid the glider creeping into the towplane on sloped uneven fields, which is common with grass runways. So don’t forget to close them prior to signaling the tow vehicle for take-off.

Howdy, I was wondering if now that the restrictions on marketplace and console have been lifted if there would be any chance the Mini 500 Stealth would have its mini guns added? Its a great addon and it would give equality between us in console and the PC users.

Many thanks

Would love to. I think the stipulation was that they would allow it for historical accuracy. So kinda big astrix on that one. Im sure it could be argued it was concept.

GotFriends Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen, slowly but surely making some headway. Which panel will you be flying most?

Analogue all the way!

Steam gauges are the only way to go!

When analogue gauges are an option a glass cockpit is not an option.

I like having both options. Sometimes I want to fly like the old school days as well as have the atmosphere of a steam gauge panel and lighting. Other times I have to admit that if I were to take up flying again in the current environment - much busier and variable traffic, communication requirements, navigational restrictions, and meteorological changes - I’d want the glass panel.

It removes or reduces the pilot’s workload so significantly it’s almost funny.

Steam gauges!Tom’s right about the glass reducing the workload, but automation of that level almost turns MSFS into a sightseeing sim. (Which is fine, but I like the engagement you get having to scan the analog panel.)

Both have their merits, so choice is always good.

When I can’t choose, I take both

GotFriends Development Hangar Update: Q4 2025

Happy Saturday, everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying a fantastic weekend of flight simming, and hanging with friends and family. Today’s ESTOL event was a blast, and it was great to see so many of you cheering on our community members on both the Twitch and YouTube streams. A massive shout out to all the participants and organizers for delivering yet another phenomenal showcase of what our niche of flight simming is all about!

Here’s a quick rundown of what our team has been working on as we head into Q4 2025:

Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen

Some of you caught an early glimpse of our latest project on Twitch. Both FloxTrot’s Hangar and TheGreatFishfoo shared the first public look at an early development build, highlighting the glass variant with the PMS750 this past week. As we move into beta testing this glass variant first, we will be working on the steam variant, so we can gather feedback and have each option tested one at a time. The A32 Vixxen is nearing completion and is on track for a release sometime this quarter. While we don’t have a firm date yet, it will depend on the feedback from our community testers.

5OI8 Mcknight Airfield

McKnight Airfield is the home of Heavenbound Aviaiton, our partners that are helping us bring the Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen and Taylorcraft BC12D to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024. The default 2024 version of the airfield was overly bumpy, with lackluster surrounding buildings and assets. Since Heavenbound’s students will use these aircraft for simulator training, I spent week crafting a custom scenery of the school, hanger, and its surrounding area to better reflect the real-world property (with the assistance of the property owner). We plan to share this scenery (for MSFS 2024) with the community alongside the Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen’s release, similar to how Emerald Scenery Design released Forwood Farm Scenery with the Wilga. Also a massive shoutout to Rotornut44 at Emerald Scenery Design for being an amazing tutor in helping making this scenery a reality.

Taylorcraft BC12D

We’re planning to ramp up development on the Taylorcraft BC12D after the Aeroprakt A32 Vixxen’s release. For now, we’re focusing our resources on one project at a time to ensure each release gets the attention it deserves. On a related note, one of our two real-world Taylorcraft reference aircraft, “Old Blue,” (The prewar 1938 BL65) celebrated its 87th birthday yesterday! Even more exciting, a Heavenbound student earned their PPL certification in it this afternoon. That’s 87 years of teaching generations of pilots essential stick-and-rudder skills! We’re aiming to release our in-sim version by the end of 2025, but it’s a bit early to confirm.

GotFriends / Microsoft Partnered Aircraft

Dev Jonx has been diligently addressing a range of minor bugs and community-requested quality-of-life improvements for our Microsoft-partnered projects in MSFS 2024. This includes fixes for the Optica, Norden, DracoX, Stemme S12G, and Taurus, along with upgrades to systems and avionics. These updates are expected to roll out in the Sim Update 4 Beta branches for testing soon, with a full release likely as part of the SU4 update later this year.

…Did Someone Say Super Cub?

The rumors are true! We’re working on our own version of the PA-18 Super Cub, focusing on an older variant. I’ve started some early modeling, and we’ll share more as the project progresses.

Thank you all for your continued support for GotFriends and our partners. Microsoft Flight Simulator coming to Sony’s PlayStation platform has been the highlight of our week because we know that means new friends to fly with and further grow our community and hobby. When you see them peering into streams, discords, and online groups, be sure to give them a warm welcome, and teach them a thing or two about flying in the sim once the release rolls around!

Cheers!

  • Developer Mykrode

Ready for that A32 but a Super Cub?! Take my money right now!

Sounds awesome! Will you also please address the missing pilot in the F4F Wildcat in FS2024?

Jonx is currently digging through some 24 updates to the 2020 fleet today, I brought it up and hes aware to include the pilot_0 node fix to make it show up again. Cheers!

Seconded. Can’t have enough cubs, and I’ve been waiting for someone to take on the Super Cub. Who better than these fine folks!

As a previous owner of a PA18-150 Piper Super Cub IRL, I am waiting patiently to have one in the sim. Thanks for taking on this project!

Beta is live on the Aeroprakt! Currently being tested with a team of flightsim enthusiasts as well as real world pilots, and two flight schools that own Aeroprakt A32 Vixxens (Heavenbound Aviaiton & Stein’s Aircraft Services, LLC). We’re relaxed on public showcase of the project at its current state so you may see a few screenshots, clips or streams about it floating around online. Cheers!
