Just been for a flight in NZ, Launched C&D at Nelson with live weather. ATIS reported Wind calm, Few Clouds at 4800ft, Few Clouds at 9000ft, Ceiling 18000ft Broken. Runway RNAV" IN use. Landing and taking of runway 2L & 20R
Requested taxi - airfield is currently IFR - Request denied.
Flew anyway, around the northern tip of S Island and down to RNZAF Woodbourne. Requested Full Stop landing. The airfield is currently IFR - Request denied.
What is going on?

Well, if this is NZNS, the nearest NOAA reporting station is Wellington and they’re stating IFR right now.
Interesting. There was no METAR available in the sim but the information that you have presented there (I presume Wellington) is somewhat at odds with the ATIS reports at both NZNS and NZWB. NZNS offered:
Wind: Calm
Temp: 16C
Dewpoint: 12C
Pressure: 29.70"Hg
I didn’t write down Woodbourne, but I certainly didn’t experience a significant crosswind component at any time and that would have been quite significant on the East-West runway at Woodbourne.
In hindsight my experience may have been associated with the ubiquitous “bandwidth” issue; I did get the message and “Switched to Offline Mode” a few minutes after leaving Nelson, although the visible scenery didn’t appear significantly degraded.
