Live Traffic - There or Not?

I had the AIG Traffic Controller and it appeared to be working. Then I downloaded the Beta and MSFS gave us live traffic - finally! So I assumed I could deactivate AIG by renaming the trafficAircraft.bgl.aigoff file back to trafficAircraft.bgl and not running the Traffic Controller anymore. I am using these settings:

A few days ago I had plenty of traffic, but today is a different story. I’ve been trying at KSJC (San Jose Intl) and I get nothing - no arrivals or departures, nothing moves at all. Maybe something else is still set wrong - I don’t know. I’m trying now at LAX, and its only been a few minutes, but nothing is moving there either.

So I guess I’m curious as to whether Live Traffic is still working without the AIG addition. Does it continue to work 24x7, or are servers involved and something may be offline? If you don’t use AIG, is your live traffic always working? Do I need to change settings? Or maybe go back to AIG until something changes down the road? I’m not expecting the skies to be full of planes, but one or two moving at a time would be nice.

Thanks.

I’d be interested in the solution as well.

CasualClick: Actually, the discussion isn’t really about AIG as much as it is in regards to live traffic within MSFS. I’m wondering whether it still works the way it did when the Beta first came out vs whether I’ve done something to break it. Thanks.

To be clear - this setting says you’re using AI Offline. That is not Live Traffic. You need to change AI Offline to Live Traffic.

I just want planes to move. I thought this Beta version would create traffic of any kind under either option, and I’d have sworn I’ve tried the Real Time option, but I’ll change it and see what happens. Thanks.

Well - part of the complication (and why I moved the topic) is AIG. Unlike competing products, AIG has more “touch” on base sim traffic - either AI Offline or Traffic.

The easiest way to check this in the Beta is to disable AIG. Then try both AI Offline and Live.

I thought I did that by renaming the trafficAircraft.bgl file back to the default. Do I need to do something else to disable AIG? And BTW I changed the setting to Real Time and still have seen nothing at LAX.

I’m not an AIG user, so I can’t tell you if that was correct/effective.

It’s questions like this that go to @Kaiii3 's AIG Forum or Discord Server. The MSFS 3rd Party Forums are for General Discussion of products, not specific tech support.

I apologize, you are correct. I’ll do that.

Just so you know, the default “trafficaircraft.bgl” is offline flight plans (only real value is it contains flight plans for GA traffic) - it has ZERO to do with real traffic.

I wasn’t clear in my original post. I didn’t necessarily need “live” traffic - I just wanted planes to move. If I have to spawn at an airport and wait x minutes for that to happen, I’m fine with that, but I’m curious how long I have to wait (assuming it works).

real time doesn’t work and hasn’t for a while now. Offline (and off) using AIG works well (outside of all the bugs/broken parts of the game as it relates to AI traffic with only the devs can fix).

OK, to anyone who may be curious about how to make planes MOVE at the airports, it appears to be working (remember, I have downloaded the beta). Live or not doesn’t matter to me, I just want to see moving planes. This is a screen shot of SJC:

As CasualClick noted, I changed to REAL-TIME ONLINE. My Ground Aircraft Density is at 75 and both of the Generic Plane Models settings are OFF. I don’t know if the other settings matter.

I have AIG installed, but I’m not using it because I’d rather not have the overhead if I can get away with it.

Just a few caveats - you may have wait quite some time (10 minutes or so) for the traffic to start moving. And sometimes the planes act irregularly, but hey, it’s beta. I’m marking this as the solution since it’s working for me.

Live Traffic moving - note DAL departing and DAL taxiing to the gate next to me. This is KATL with Aerosoft Simple Traffic which only applies liveries to default Asobo stock sim Live Traffic and behavior. You can verify the flight numbers using any commercial service, they will match actual Depart / Arrival by +/- 10 to 20 minutes - feed from Flight Aware is always slightly delayed.
