Live Weather Is Consistently Working Well

Have flown over Australia/Indonesia yesterday and today over the Pacific coast of Fukushima, Japan.

On both instances the Live Weather in MSFS perfectly matches ForeFlight Enhanced Satellite Weather Imageries realtime.

Awesome experience.

Surprising, I’m yet to experience anything close to real world weather whilst flying in Australia. Not only does any ATIS not match the ‘Displayed’ weather in the ‘game’, neither even come close to matching the real world metars / weather.

I see a lot of random lightning but I have 50% chance of seeing actual live weather at surface

These observations were at FL380/FL390 Weather including winds were spot on when compared to Satellite Imageries.

Even the onboard weather radar highlighted them correctly.

Couldn’t say the same for surface weather and ATIS for now at least.

yeah it’s pretty hit and miss for me; mainly miss
Never sure if it’s because the data is behind a few hours but most of the time I find it’s the intensity of the weather that’s not matching eg clouds are there but it’s not bucketing down like it should be

Can u test as well in the usa florida area

Yep. Tested with similar results but at lower altitudes. But there were some areas that didn’t match.

Using live weather in MSFS and linking to ForeFlight I found live weather to be spot on for my last flight - marginal VFR in Thunderstorms - Composite radar on ForeFlight synched with the clouds depicted in live weather - winds were nearly the same - flying between 2000 and 7000 feet. It is great when it works

I think it’s pretty clear to everyone that live weather is very hit-or-miss…I can’t see any particular pattern as to when it works and when it doesn’t.

Hit and miss certainly. I’ve also noticed though that it is much more accurate at higher altitudes and is brilliant when working properly.

Same could be said for conventional tv weather forecast.

METAR however takes local conditions and anomalies into account. Forecasting doesn’t and cannot because of the size of the area covered.

METAR tells you precisely nothing about high altitude winds.

I just had a peek outside my window and it was partly cloudy or near overcast. Interestingly, the weather app on my iPhone and google.com indicated sunny/clear. I fired up MSFS immediately and to my joy, it was partly cloudy at my exact location but I could see an transition to clear sky just miles away. I even recorded a video but think it may not be such a good idea …

Which is what I said.

I totally agree. I flew through the jetstream in the US recently. Winds were scary good compared to observations.

Currently getting rocked above Idaho at altitude with periodic clear air turbulence. Wing banked left quite a bit once, but the aircraft recovered seamlessly.

The dynamic weather is really what brings the flight model to life. I’m glad they were able to fix most of the issues, and looking forward to additional improvement.

My last 4 flights have all had weather issues, and they’re all consistently very high winds. Just finished a short hop across New Zealand. On the map, Christchurch shows 2 Knot winds. I just landed the airbus with a 32 Knot crosswind. That’s quite a difference!

Yesterday, I flew into Oshkosh, WI from a little island in the lakes. I experienced thunderstorms most of the way, and 25+ Knot winds at the arrival airport (WS17 Pioneer). IRL, the closest thunderstorm was in Canada, and the winds at Pioneer were only 8 knots.

Flight before that, was just a little bush flying in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. It was storming, with 20+ knot winds. IRL, the closest storm was nearly in Louisiana (some 6 hours away) and the winds were pretty calm.

Prior to that, I flew an airliner flight from Chicago to Denver. At cruise altitude, I experienced winds over 60 knots most of the way. At arrival, I was again greeted by winds over 20 knots, without a cloud in the sky.

I feel like I’m stuck in a ridiculous high-wind loop.

Its a huge improvement, it’s a few hours out sometimes (live traffic is about 20 mins and a simpler dataset to work with) the wording ‘Live weather’ does set the expectation very high for sure.

Whats Pragram is this !!! looks nice…

I’ve found that the weather in game tends to be off from the real conditions in my location by a couple of hours. For the most part of I’m flying out of my local airport, the weather is pretty close to what I see looking out my window and that pleases me greatly.

But in any case, I haven’t seen any clear, 270/3, 29.92 conditions in several days now. To me that’s a big improvement and I’ll take it as a win even if it’s imperfect.
