Just completed a flight with the TBM from KPWM to KORF and the live weather was a total mess.
On the ground at KPWM wind and temperatures were correct, however metar reported light rain and it wasn’t raining in MSFS and the 7SM visibility wasn’t there.
During cruise also winds and temperature weren’t realistic: wind was about 40 knots stronger and 30° degrees off from the forecast (I checked on meteoblue map). Temperature was 6/7 degrees hotter.
Landing at KORF I had an overcast layer which was not supposed to be there, temperature was 14 (metar showed 27), pressure was off by 0.20In (quite big margin) and wind completely off (nearly 180° difference to what Metar reported)
Honestly I rarely had such huge discrepancies before the latest update. I hope I was just unfortunate for some reason, however I’d like to hear other opinions
Probably server-side thing. They mentioned the live weather had some cache issue on server-side a few patches ago.
My speculation is that MB provides forecast in non-distributable form (text file like CSV, etc.) and Asobo has to make it distributable and streamable on the server side. This requires some system design and a key concept is caching logic. So whenever there’s a new data from MB, Asobo has to replace all exsiting cache with this new update. Consider if a user is streaming from the cache that needs to be updated, there could be things gone wrong. Therefore, if we can have a user report summary by time, then we probably would see spikes of issues during cache updates.
Just my 2 cents without knowing anything about how Asobo architect MSFS
Just want to add more speculation to my previous speculation. This challenge would only be visible to users if the calculation/update of the weather forecast is continuous & dynamic on the server side and the streaming handler never closes. It won’t be much of an issue if the updating is only intermittent but then you get discontinuous weather.
The weather situation is very frustrating, and it looks like this latest patch has made things worse. Loaded up at KBOS where it was supposed to be snowing and windy earlier today and NADA…ZILCH…sunny with blue skies with a light NE wind. If I read good reviews tonight and tomorrow on the REX patch being released tonight, I’m off to the store. This is ridiculous.
Weather is not working correctly still. Sitting at KATL for an evening flight.
NOAA Wx: KATL 310152Z 33006KT 10SM CLR 11/04 A3018 RMK AO2 SLP222 T01060044
Weather on the ramp is clear as a bell altimeter 29.92. I have triple checked live weather, swapped servers and no change.
Hate to report, but even after this latest update(11/24/2020) the problem is still there…Today, started at KJAN just after a cold front passed( a confirmed tornado today), but it was clearing… cloud tops lowering and thinning skies, there was still thunder and lightning. The depiction of the front passing was beautiful…if there only were no lightning and thunder, it would have been great…but hopefully sometime in the future, it’ll get fixed

I don’t understand why they don’t simply remove thunder and lightning from the game at this point. It is not that important to have, and it certainly degrades the overall experience when it’s there constantly.
I’m a bit of a weather nerd and have been testing the “Live” weather out. Earlier this week we had showers rolling in across the South of the UK. In MSFS, nothing. No showers anywhere in the UK. This afternoon, 3 layers of cloud, perfect for a flight, however, in MSFS the UK is cloudless.
By comparison, last week there was a thunderstorm off the coast of Israel. So I flew from Cyprus and into…a thunderstorm, exactly where it was on the many radars I use when being a nerdy weather freak.
Is this normal for MSFS, is the live weather still broken or is there an intermittent fault where data isn’t collected, giving the impression it’s defaulted to “clear”?
It’s hit or miss. Generally speaking, temperature, pressure and wind will be correct (not always 100% accurate, but most of the time within a couple of percent of actual conditions). Cloud cover and precipitation tend to be sketchy. At best, you can except a delay of about 30-60 minutes from real world conditions. Other times, that delay may be several hours.
for me only Unreal weather is only solution for REAL LIVE weather…
just from today, from hour… EPGD - we have snow on ground and in the air - LIVE WEATHER- zero snow on ground, zero in the air - Unreal weather mod - EVERYTHING near perfect to situation out of window ( I`m living near EPGD airport ) This is link to live webcam airport and you can compare… https://www.airport.gdansk.pl/lotnisko/kamery-internetowe-p30.html
and few shots from sim …
