Live weather: slow clouds loading

Hello there. Don’t know if it’s a bug or a “normal” behaviour, but lately (I stopped playing the game for a few months) I notice that sometimes clouds don’t show up when I start a flight, even if the forecast says overcast. It doesn’t happen everytime, just, maybe, 1 time out of 4-5 flights. When it happens, the correct clouds coverage loads in a few seconds, sometimes not at all. I don’t have problems with bandwidth or anything else and the game runs smoothly. Any idea? I’m on Xbox Series X.

I presume you are using Live Weather and Real Time - you need both to get the right effect.

But I’ve seen this happen a couple of times, just a few seconds delay before everything “corrects” itself. Weather is downloaded on demand so it’s quite feasible that every now and then communications slow down a bit until the servers catch up. For me I’ve seen it at times when “America wakes up” - that is when there is a sudden increase in demand. I’m based in the UK and peak time seems to be around 1700Z when Europe gets home from school/work!

Maybe get your internet connection checked, especially if you connect over WiFi and there is something locally interfering with the signal, some electronics etc near the router is a favourite source. The sim will still run smoothly, it’s just waiting for data.

There are those who will say that the weather performance in the sim has deteriorated and they may be right to an extent although I haven’t really noticed - but then I’m not a perfectionist!

I saw that same issue reported in other threads related to Live weather but which main issue was not about the delay. Some people reported delay from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes. So I think it is a good point to have a topic just focused on that issue. Root causes are multiple and intermittent so not easy to investigate and fix. As mentioned by Terrylawdinn it can happen during certain hours when the server of your region your are connected to is overloaded , it can be your internet connexion, it can be your internet service provider. Some people tried to connect through VPN and it fixed their issue with Live weather that was not working at all.
I saw you reported it in the bug forum, let’s see if other people are reporting same issue and so will reach out devs team.

Thanks guys. The problem never occurs during the first flight of the session, just after a few flights. Quite strange, isn’t it? Yesterday I started a flight at Mataveri airport at Easter Island, maybe the third of the session, and the sky was clear (the real weather was cloudy at the moment). I waited a minute and nothing changed. I restarted the sim, first flight departing from Mataveri and this time clouds were there instantly. It seems that Live weather gets tired flight after flight

I hope the fix included in the last SU14B update will address your issue. Keep us posted once you’ll make some tests under SU14.

Today is pretty bad. At least 1 flight out of 2-3 has delays in showing clouds. Nothing about this issue on the forum lately, so I assume it’s not a general problem. So strange, because I have no issues with my connection and everything else is ok.

SU14 should be released next Tuesday 5th so you’ll be able to test and find out if the fix works for you.

Signed in the Beta, just to check if it’s fixed. And no, still broken. Sometimes clouds don’t load properly, sometimes they even disappear in the world map. Sick and tired of it, honestly…

Bad new :frowning: . So the last thing I think you should try is using a VPN. I am pretty sure you can subscribe freely to some providers, having a trial period to make some tests. If with VPN it works smoothly it means that your ISP may restrict some traffic to/from MSFS servers.

In some ways it seems server-related, because it happens more often during weekends, especially in the afternoon. Last night I started at least 4-5 flights and every single time clouds were there…

Still happening. Last night I put Google DNS on my Xbox, I started at least 7-8 flights and everytime clouds loaded properly. Hooray! Well, this morning I checked again and on the second flight clouds didn’t show up… Again, I think is something server-related, but I don’t think there are so many people connected in the morning (Europe)…

Only (thought) I had it once but then discovered that SU14 had changed my weather settings!
