I imagine you already have, but, everyone, please vote for this topic. We’re starting to get to noticeable numbers
Edit: Well, it looks like I spoke too soon for this airplane. But, vote for it anyway
Edit 2: Oh, I guess I didn’t speak too soon… maybe I should read whole threads before excitedly responding… Vote!
P.S. I, for one, prefer WWII weathering.. But that’s me…
This plane has history for me, lol… My dad used to ask me when I was going to start paying rent at the library I spent so much time there reading books about airplanes since I was little. This airplane was one of the few airplanes that they had a copy of the “Aircraft in Profile” series books in their collection… So I remember it well from reading that.
Guessing you didn’t read the topic before posting. All three of those are solved by disabling the 2024 version that IniBuilds screwed up and using the AH 2020 version. The flight model feels the same on both, so you don’t lose anything unless you somehow enjoy FS2024 walkarounds.
(You shouldn’t have to do this, of course, but it’s a quick and instant solution.)
Not hearing this.
Saw you make a similar comment on the B-25, which makes me think your local airport was really windy. This is somewhat a sim problem – lots of planes are really twitchy in crosswinds in MSFS 2024. I did see the plane overreact to crosswinds, but just corrected with my rudder pedals because I expect that in MSFS, alas. I had the issue of the plane yawing to the left with xwind; no roll problem, though.
Hopefully that will result in some improvements as I think it’s a good base but all the little bugs drag it down. I also may be a bit biased as I’ve been hanging out for a Boomerang in any flight sim (War Thunder doesn’t count) for a very long time. It’s been super frustrated watching other warbirds that were very low production or only existed as partially built prototypes (Horten Ho 229/Gotha 229 anybody?) show up regularly. While the Boomerang, that actually entered (admittedly limited) serial production and still has many examples, both static and airworthy, around today got largely overlooked.
Either way, I’m hoping this one gets the love it deserves and we finally get a good one in a good sim to fly around in.
Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if AH was originally developing it but then got it taken off them by MS/Asobo after the disastrous Boeing 707. They don’t seem to have been credited on any of the Local Legends or Famous Flyers released since.
I’d also speculate that this might explain why their last few direct releases like the Mosquito and B-25 (we don’t talk about the Peashooter…) have been a lot better than their usual quality. Possibly trying to get back on MS/Asobo’s good side?
I haven’t noticed this myself, will check next time I’m in the sim
It’s slow yes but I’ve found it to have a great roll rate and turning circle. You can really throw it around at 180-200mph. Agree that vertical manoeuvres aren’t it’s strong suite but that’s true of the real thing.
For any other Boomerang aficionados out there, there’s been one more just restored to airworthy condition doing it’s first post-restoration flight on the 13th of March this year. It’s Boomerang A46-54 rebuilt by Greg Batts and now registered as VH-MHB. It’s based with Aerotec at Toowoomba City Aerodrome in Queensland.
What’s up with the tiny pilot? Every/photo video pretty much shows the pilots head almost at canopy level. Stands out even in the promo video. I laughed when I saw it, as I’d just watched a bunch of real videos of it. Very weird to miss such an obvious defect.
Also not being able to open the canopy is a deal breaker. So many photos are with the canopy open! cough
As an Aussie it just puts me off it immediately if something basic like that is off.
Pity, as it was a great ground attack a/c and could be fun for canyon running/low level touring.
Correct - CA-12 as per the straight exhaust pipe rather than the spiky “hedgehog” style one used from the CA-13 onward. Picture taken from Aerotec Facebook page linked above:
If you’re an Aussie and love warbirds I’d suggest it’s worth buying for the 2020 version alone as that works fine in 20204 and is generally less buggy with a canopy you can open in flight. Plus the more people who buy it, the higher priority fixing the 2024 version should be.
I quite like this plane! It handles differently than other warbirds I have (which I think is true to the real aircraft from the brief research I did on wikipedia), and I thought the engine noises were pretty nice.
On the other hand, I hate that we can’t open the cockpit without exiting the plane. I always like to hear the engine sounds through an open window or cockpit when taxiing in these warbirds. And the pilot looks pretty short from the exterior view.
Hopefully we get an update or two, but otherwise it’s not terrible for a 10 dollar plane
I’d rather promise them I’ll buy it when they release the 2024 version fixed, properly QA’d.
From my perspective as a customer (actually as a developer too), that’s how it’s supposed to work.
Seems to be far too many obvious issues, not just a few niggling slipped through the cracks “regular bugs”.
Call that the “Skyvan still can’t take off all this time after 2024 release” effect
Once bitten, twice shy, when it comes to local legend fixes.
Supercharger switch in cockpit is purely decorative, it will switch automatically at 10,000ft regardless of how the cockpit switch is set. This seems to be how the majority of warbirds in MSFS handle it with some allowing you to manipulate the switch and some not. There’s only 1 or 2 with a working supercharger switch i.e. one that increases MP regardless of altitude.
Not sure about fuel flow, will check next time I’m in the sim
It’s not sold as a “here’s a broken 2024 product, but we also give you a 2020 version which mainly works if you’re willing to fiddle with your library”, but that’s what you’re getting it seems. ymmv.
I’m sure there’s a story there about AH having to throw it over the wall to inibuilds as they don’t do 2024 conversions (all their planes are 2020 only) and there wasn’t enough time to convert it because brickwall release date, or maybe not. Maybe they just didn’t test it. I don’t know.
They should have just released the 2020 version and followed up later with a working 2024 version. It’s a rather cavalier attitude to quality product management though. Or maybe they just like outsourcing the QA to the users, in which case it’s working really well. Bravo user QA team
Props also to the mods for parsing the mega bug dump [Bugs] Local Legend 24: CAC Boomerang into individual bug reports.
Looking forward to the final version, whenever that is.
