Local Legend 25: Heinkel He 70 Blitz

I made a bug report for the instrument lighting issue but wasn’t allowed to use the tag for heinkel he 70. Hopefully a moderator can correct that as I wanted to get attention to this bug regardless

It’s very interesting it turns like the Curtiss and lands like the xcub, motor almost shut off during my rolling test while inverted, checklist is super easy

What does the first lever do? The other two are fuel selectors but I can’t tell a difference when I manipulate the first one.

Hopefully we’ll get an update on some of the more minor annoyances since the bones of this plane are really good. Have you been able to get into the cabin? I’ve tried the shift wasd way but I can’t find a place where it lets me slide through the wall.

Shift + WASD did not do it for me either. I had to go external and then use shift + X. Then use WASD but it is tricky as it can shoot you past the cabin because it is small - (works well on airliners). Make sure you pause though if in the air the controls are not functional.

That lever is to purge trapped air from the fuel line and check fuel pressure. Once complete return to the normal position.

Ohhh, thank you! That makes sense.

That lever is German for “pump test”

Well..she is a beauty, but for me, the gear indicator does not work, cockpit lighting problems and nonsensical readings on the engine instruments.

I put a big report on the cockpit lighting if you want to give it a vote. A workaround for now is to start up on the runway at night, and that makes the gear indicator and instrument lighting work. Then I change time and slew the plane back to parking for the full experience of starting up haha

I am new to the game, bought the plane, but overall my experience didnt meet my expectations for the aircraft (i use it in career)…

  1. i expected the cowl flaps to do something else aside from affecting the speed, i can fly whole flight at 1500RPM with cooler closed, and it doesnt do anything,… similarly, when i open cowl flaps fully (well i can open it is maximum is 85,7%) it just slows plane a little but does not affect any instrument (indicated temperature).

  2. the plane even when flying straight, level and with full throttle (and cowl flaps closed) does not even get close to it´s IRL max speed. best i can do in straight flight is 130-140 knots

  3. instruments showing temperatures, pressures and other conditions of cooling and engine are just for show? some of them stay on the same values no matter how i fly and what i do

  4. when flying IFR, tower tells me to set a squawk, how do i set a squawk on my radio from 1932? (minor thing, but it kinda breaks immersion)

  5. gear indicator does not work

was i expecting too much? is this standard for “historical” planes, that they are more just for nice screenshots and they cannot be taken too seriously in terms of regular flying?

You´re not alone with those expectation, but it seems, priorities are somewhere else…Eye candy, stupid visible exhaust heat etc…

it has quite high rating, so i supposed it is good quality thing to spend money on, but if i had known this, i would not buy it

one more thing, on my joystick POV hat, when i push it left, the view swings slightly to the right and up (as if the pilot wants to inspect something on a rim of the cockpit) and when i push it right, it looks left - inside the ccckpit, exterior view works as it should. does this happen to others too? it works normally on other stock planes

Right. There are a lot more people out there with lower expectations than we have. That’s ok of course, but not good for us.

Key is to wait some time for users to share experiences and then either buy or forget. Every now and then jewels appear and for me those make up for all the bad ones.

I understand there are no actual examples left in the world - so it is all guess work from the devs.

Starting on the runway at night triggers the instrument lights and gear indicators to work properly. You can start at the runway, slew back to parking, adjust time to whatever you prefer, and lights will still work even after shutting down and restarting the plane (just don’t exit out of the flight or you’ll have to go through it all again)

Thank you good sir Dr. Rock, i could survive without lights and gear indicator, I am mainly dissapointed by lack of speed (i bought the plane to travel fast) and absence of some proper engine management…i can go maximum powah with cowl flaps closed for whole flight and it does not matter.
hopefully, it will be fixed one day. I was just expecting more from a content you pay extra to have

I totally get that… sometimes these local legend planes get fixed but sometimes they don’t. The MU-2 is underpowered for instance. Fingers crossed we get a more in depth engine on this old bird!

Only two short flights so far. I’d add to those who have mentioned that it would be nice to be able to open the canopy from inside the cockpit (without exiting the aircraft), and to be able to open the cabin door without entering the cockpit so one could look inside (i.e one would only enter the cockpit via the door to the cockpit).

It is interesting that, with state-of-the-art (for its time) retractable wheels, the aircraft has a rear skid & not a real wheel. It makes taxiing & turning a bit of a challenge at the moment. I need to provide a short full-throttle burst to get the aircraft moving, then quickly throttle way back to prevent the aircraft from getting away from me. Without a real wheel, this aircraft has a fairly wide turning radius, depending on the ground type (grass , asphalt, etc). Differential braking helps, but I need to play with the sensitivities of my brakes & rudder to get better control of this.

I’ve come across a couple of bugs (reported here and here) and have couple more I need to retest before submitting, but so far I’m enjoying this aircraft!

No manual

very under powered
