You can of course. But if you suddenly have only 50% of the fps, remember you made this change ^^
TerrainLOD is Nr.1 in terms of performance impact. There is little in the sim with a comparable impact.
Just saying, lots of topics about performance but they have settings set in a way where its no wonder.
