LOD scaling and loss of detail post patch

So what I have noticed post the latest patch is the LOD scaling has been altered. So your settings pre patch are less post patch. Eg if you were on 100 for terrain and buildings detail that is the equivalent of 50 post patch. You will find the difference most noticeable in
Photogrammetry areas that have far more detail to process. On low LOD (100 or lower) you’ll only get high detail close to your plane, and so you’ll get texture popping etx

I was on 100 LOD buildings and textures before patch. Now I have bumped this to 150 when using normal bing satellite data and 170 for any photogrammetry regions. That brings me back to about where I was a before but still get decent FPS.

Its worth noting also that I have to manually cache photogrammetry regions because my internet connection is slow, but I don’t know how much difference it makes. Anyway, I highly recommend increasing LOD. It works for me. Not perfect but certainly more acceptable.

Hi,
yes indeed, I was on LOD 100, now back at 200

And what do those simmers do that already were on 200 before patch? I can not increase the slider any further but the rendering distance of trees and buildings is noticeably reduced compared to the distance prior patch 2. How I hate those performance “improvements”, do the devs think that we are all blind and stupid not recognizing HOW they increased performance?

Well I agree you are stuffed! I don’t have the highest system so couldn’t put it on 200 so have never experienced the level of detail you’re used to. Have you sent a ticket to Zendesk?? I agree that downgrading the graphical fidelity is a pretty cheap way to gain easy FPS. They need to find optimisations elsewhere

Ive pushed to 200 and still cant get the LOD to anywhere near where it was , also what have they done to the trees , there seems to be far less of them and from a distance the look like little black spikes .

What were your LOD settings pre patch? If they were high 100’s or 200 you probably won’t get to what you had before. Mine were on 100 so I have more room to play with.

Mine were at 100 also previous to the patch , now at 200 and still cant get anywhere near the LOD I had previously and also as I said , something is fubar with the trees and vegetation which I think used to help with the distance perception.

That’s strange I am. Or at least I’m noticing any difference. I don’t have before and after screens

I also had to increase from 100 to 200 after the patch to have at least close the experience I had before. Still not quite happy with the draw distance of trees and buildings since in flat terrain one can now see where the 3D objects end and then you have just a plain texture.

Quite annoying if this change was intentional, since everyone could have done that “improvement” themselves by reducing to 50 to that that worse experience with tiny fps gain.

I have noticed no difference post patch. LOD 200 here

I agree, they need to revert back to prior patch in terms of graphics and lod settings etc and I’m someone who is running it on an 8 year old pc with gpu upgrade, 3770k, 24gb ram at ddr3 and 1660 ti, I’ve just maxed out graphics settings with 200 lod and still get 20-25 FPS in major cities and that isn’t right, I was quite happy before with medium to high settings with ga planes only and great visuals, I’ve learnt to live well within my means after spending the last 8 years on FSX.

The latest patch for me is a major step in the wrong direction in some respects.

This is not good. They should not be degrading all of us for some of us.

I can run the Sim with about 80% Ultra Settings with the rest on High or Med and it was running great!

To lower the visuals to try and accommodate the lower end PC’s is just wrong. Let them adjust the sliders or save some cash and upgrade.

They have got to stop degrading the Sim. I don’t want less after having paid and tasted the Better.

We have to report this

That’s the way to go! Everybody reading this and feeling the same should open a ticket with ZenDesk and upvote if there’s a topic in the Bugs section (didn’t check while writing but will sure do).

I have my LOD for terrain set at 300 for terrain but only 100 object LOD. Should I go ahead and bump my slider to 150 or 200?

Why don’t you try it? It’s easier and quicker than posting questions in a forum that noone can tell you.

Just speculating. Maybe this is the way how to ensure smoothness on most systems? Maybe they realized that LOD offset was a bit overshoot and the only way ho to increase smoothnes for most of us was global decrease of LOD radius.

Maybe this is part of their effor how to make things smooth on XBOXes and keep as much code / principles the same as possible. Maybe they are preparing somehow for DX12 switch?

If yes, seems OK to me. I’m not planning to spend my flying with a mangnifying glass in fornt of my display analysing how things are perfect or not.

They shouldn’t advertising it with the beautiful graphics…

Just did, made no noticeable difference and the Autogen still has the popping in effect.

Trees popping up, Bad LOD I’m was on LOD 200 before patch, I can not increase the slider any further but the rendering distance of trees and buildings is noticeably reduced compared to the distance prior patch 2. This is not good, ruins it for me.

Everybody send to zendesk. It’s an issue for sure!
