The “Companion App” will be obsolete soon. This is why they are trying to get users to use just the Xbox app.
However, if you have any xbox apps, they all need the same account logged in. And you really don’t need any xbox app - but you’ll lose xbox multiplayer if you don’t have it. You will still have multiplayer in MSFS though.
