Yesterday I fired up the Sim and noticed when the airplane was parked my right rudder pedal inside the airplane was fluttering. I disconnected my pedals from my PC and then reconnected however the fluttering continue. I’m curious to know if this is a glitch in the sim or if my right pedal is actually broken. I called logitech and I’m waiting for them to return my call. Has anyone else experienced this?
When you disconnected the rudder pedals, did the fluttering stop? That will tell you whether its the sim or the hardware.
Since our pedals are stored on dirty floors, consider pulling them up and looking to see if any contacts on the pedals need cleaning. We have been using the sim now for ten months so we could all start to see this happen. Dust gets into everything.
It could be something as simple as some dirt or oxidation in one of the potentiometers of the pedals. The best way to test for sure is to see if that flutter also exists when the pedals aren’t connected. If you disconnect pedals and the flutter disappears, then it’s something with the pedals.
The quick and easy “fix” would be to introduce a bit of a dead zone in your pedals’ controller config in MSFS. That doesn’t fix a hardware issue per se, but it helps work around it. If it is dirt in a pot, then that requires disassembly of the pedals for cleaning. Typically a shot of Deoxit cleaning spray or something similar with fix that right up.
Another thing we don’t know is what other controllers you’re using. If you’re using a HOTAS or stick with a twist axis for rudder, it could be that, or it could be interference between 2 devices assigned to the same controls. If that’s the case for you, I would start by disabling any duplicate controls; in this case, unbinding the rudder controls from the twist axis on the sick. Same if you’re using a gamepad in your setup. By default, the shoulder buttons will be rudders. Unless you actually use a gamepad to fly, I would recommend unbinding those commands.
This tool is one way to see the values being generated by your USB devices. Download the DIView.zip file.
It requires fiddling with to get the values to show. There have been a few YT videos over the years posted on how to use it.
This also applies to the earlier post today. It would show the USB output flutter.
Sounds like dirty pots. Mine suffer from this, but a few kicks left and right sorts it out. Hope yours will do the same.
This did the trick. Thanks
- Always worth checking your hardware. DIView (linked above) is a great tool for this.
If it looks fine in DIView but behaves strangely in game then look to the game settings.
However, with regards rudder flutter, there is a rudder assist option. Check that this is off otherwise it’s possible that it’s actually input from the game because it thinks it’s trying to help.
