Image supplied is just a ■■■■ landing but illustrates the absolute state of London, and yes before anyone replies that it ain’t a walking simulator I’m talking about no matter how many times I overfly it, cache on, cache off, it is a complete mess still and stutters like me when I’ve had too many wines, tried Tokyo and New York with exactly the same settings and same Power solo aircraft and they’re butter smooth and look stunning no matter how fast or low I fly…is it just me or am I missing something?
If you’re missing something, I am too. I can’t visit any of the PG sites with the last 2 world updates without it looking like your screen shot nor dipping into single digit frame rates. Yet, I can maintain 30-ish fps anywhere else with PG.
I have Photogrammetry turned off since some weeks.
It looks awful from close up and gives me 10 FPS instead of 30 in such areas.
London is the worst optimized PG city. It’s going to get another pass in the future.
Also keep in mind though that PG was never intended to look great from 50ft away, but more from a couple thousand feet up in the air. If you want to fly this close, then just disable photogrammetry. The hardware is just not currently available to make it look good from that close.
Not quite so. I’m running a 3090 @ 1440 mostly ultra settings render scale 100 and I rarely see the GPU pass 30% load.
I can put more load on my GPU by increasing the render scale. @200 I start to see maybe 70% load.
Hardware which can render these scenes without breaking sweat already exists.
However, because all of this has to be streamed live the best hardware in the world will be underutilized while it waits for data to process.
It would therefore be more accurate to say that the infrastructure is not currently available to make it perform well.
If we are to discuss image quality in addition then presumably there will be an improvement in PG content creation and optimization over time.
But this will still be pre-processed content which is being streamed and will therefore be at the mercy of every single variable between server health to users local network capability.
I wasn’t just talking about the hardware in your system. I’m also talking about the hardware strapped to the planes to generate the photogrammetry. About the tech needed to optimize the vertices, process the textures, wrapping said textures around the vertices.
There’s a whole lot that needs to happen before we’ll get photogrammetry that looks good from 50 feet away.
Anyways, photogrammetry is also a workload that mostly needs a solid CPU, not a solid GPU (although that can’t hurt). Edit: also… loads of fast RAM
You’re not missing anything.
I would, in fact, call that a “toddler’s clay project.” It looks very similar to the wretched Coney Island, Brooklyn offering I cited recently.
Uninstall the UK 3d photogrammetry update, then fly freely with the glorious Top Rudder Solo 103.
I need to lower the terrain LOD to 80 or even below with my RTX 3070 GPU (with i9-11900K CPU) to make stutter free flight in London. I think London PG really needs to be optimized.
Don’t underestimate Amsterdam, that looks and performs very badly too…
I just switched PG off and hope for better times….
I have reverb G1, 3800x, 1080ti and 32Gb. London works enough well when settings are
Render scaling (60) is most important. Some people change resolution outside of MSFS, I use MSFS setting.
Like others in this thread, I’ve switched PG off AND uninstalled the “3D Photogrammetry Cities” for France, Japan and the UK. I was getting 6FPS over London, I’m now getting 24FPS. I don’t have Orbx London, only the freeware river level mod and Thames Barrier. My FPS doesn’t fluctuate any more wherever I fly.
I have OrbX London landmarks and London City Airport. I had to downgrade my settings a lot when update come. London City Airport takes more power than Photogrammetly City.
It almost seems like they got the original photogrammetry from a single source (Bing Maps), then purchased additional photogrammetry and it’s in a different format and they can’t merge it in with the sim without a huge performance hit. So they reduced quality, but it still stutters. Not to mention that USA photogrammetry area are enormous compared to the latest updates. I don’t understand why they can’t deliver the same standard as they have in the US. Google seem to be able to.
