London scenery looks just terrible

Reasonable quality is probably an understatement. From that image I recognise those curved buildings. They lead on to Piccadilly Circus. Try that in any other flight sim.

What LOD settings did you use here? This looks pretty dam good…

5.9 but there is an FPS impact, especially with a formation flypast :). Actually with just a single aircraft in the picture performance isn’t too bad. RTX 2060 Super, 15-9600K, 32 gb RAM. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Better Quality Photogrammetry Scenery - Increase the TLOD - YouTube

At that range, 5.9 is probably overkill. It won’t make those buildings look any better, but you might see trees rendered outside the more built up areas of London……like the coast. :joy:

This post apocalyptic mess is London, is there any simple fix for it or not?

I’m not overly bothered as I’ll just stay away until, but its a bit rough for a major city I think, plus one with its own update pack.

The London thing has been there since that unannounced update landed, but todays flight experience was pretty poor all over, I did three short flights, suffered from flight planner failing to activate a leg, ATC bummed out and went mute on 2nd trip, I was directed to the wrong runway for takeoff and to top it off on starting up none of my controllers were found so i had to do a reboot, all in all a poor day so I gave up and hit GTA to vent my frustration…

London requires a huge amount of network bandwidth to stream all of that photogrammetry.

Yes maybe but it should ā€˜pop’ eventually, it used to be very impressive in detail. My ā€˜net’ is 65-70mb.

Not maybe, definitely, and 65-70mb isn’t going to cut it. Not even close.

That’s not true at all!

I used to have a 40mb line and it could stream all the PG in the sim without problem. If you look at the download speed when over PG it’s normally between 10 and 15Mbps. A 70mbps line is more than enough!

It depends on the altitude too though.

Looks like a server side issue. I get a less speed average than that and I’ve had London looking 100% better than that, jittery but definitely much better at way way lower alt. Some days you get bad PG on stuff in general due to server load.

If you want to get an idea of how much bandwidth London really requires for high quality photogrammetry, try to download it all in high quality using the manual cache  (if you have a PC, this feature might not be available on Xbox)

It used to be great, all the way up to that unexpected update, then it turned into what it is now. Its pretty constant too, you can circle round and nothing ā€˜pops’ in, its just ugly.

I too discount the net speed, mostly, 70mb should be more than enough even it takes a second or two to load and pop, it just does not pop though.

No, its not available.

Yeah I guess it has been more consistent. I do find some days are better than others to. The weather for example sometimes takes like 5mins or so into a flight to refresh or whatever and it just explodes suddenly on screen.

@HethrMasn, would you be able to throw some figures on the table? I have seen people talk about pre-caching but never see any numbers. I’d like this feature for Xbox, surely a 50gb or so buy in would help smooth out performance.

What’s happened with London. All of a sudden it looks terrible, bombed out, buildings not loading in properly. It used to look good. I’m on Xbox and to the best of my knowledge nothing has changed on my end. PG is enabled etc.

Check your Internet connection.

Connection is fine. Speed is fine. Like I say nothing has changed on my end

Just did a fly around London, sim is behaving oddly today, as you fly over good looking buildings get worse, there are tons of pop-ins (unless you are pointing a camera phone at it, grumble) I’m East Coast US and normally have fair/good scenery.

This is how its been for me since that unannounced update recently :frowning:

London has been so unspeakably awful for at least a few weeks now for me on Xbox x ( see my various posts/ photos on the subject recently), that I have now written off London as an approach/ sightseeing destination etc,and I now stay in the USA where the city scenery is massively better ,shame as London is my home city.
