Looking for a GPU upgrade

Hi guys, I am planing an update into a possible RTX 4090. However, I have a question regarding the interaction of such a card with my monitor. I am currently using a 4K monitor that has a 60 hertz refresh rate (Benq PD3200U).

This means that the card will not go beyond 60 FPS in the sim?

Thanks for any feedback!

You won’t be able to get more than 60FPS out of your Monitor.

You can let the card run at higher FPS if you disable V-sync, but you won’t be able to see them.
You’ll only get screen Tearing by doing that.

Also, even with a 4090 you can be happy if you get 60 FPS at 4K all the time :stuck_out_tongue:

What kind of CPU are you using? If your CPU is the bottleneck, the 4090 won’t do you much good…

Thanks for this this information! Yeah I am in the process of looking at the pros and cons.
I currently have a RTX2080ti, if I spend this money I would hope to see a real improvement in the FPS.

Regarding the CPU I am currently using an Intel Core i9-10900X 10x 3.70GHz Cascade Lake-X, do you see any issues here?

You should see improvements in 4k in areas, where you are not CPU limited.

At large busy airports, the CPU will be the bottleneck, so my guess that there won’t be much more FPS in such areas.

However, the 4090 also has DLSS3 Frame Generation, which will basically double your FPS with AI generated Frames. If you use that, there will be a huge improvement in FPS, no matter what scenario you are in. However, there are a few downsides to DLSS3, like artifacts and ghosting.

However, I heard that this is not really noticable in MSFS.

I keep seeing posts like these, and this is false information. Turn up tlod until you just start getting stutters without frame generation. Turn on frame gen, see if those stutters are gone. No offense. Frame gen is smoke and mirrors. It’s not real fps, and it also comes with added latency.

I do not own a 4000 series card, so I did not have the chance to try it our myself.
Just watched a few DLSS3 MSFS Videos on youtube, and it looked okay there.

I did not mean to spread false information.

And yes, I guess with TLOD maxed out you are going to have issues no matter the hardware.

Latency is not such a big issues in a game like this. It’s a different story for Shooters etc…
