Hi,
I am a new player in MSFS and looking a budget Throttle.
I’m using Logitech 3D Pro sidestick for now, in MSFS mainly I’m playing airliners (Airbus currently).
Here’s a list throttle that I found in my local shop
- VKB THQ
- Thrustmaster TWCS/T1600M Combo
- Thrusmaster TCA Airbus
I was looking for Honeycomb Barvo, but sadly it was out of stock in anywhere in my country
I slightly interested in VKB THQ since it’s modular and combo with FSM GA would be awesome, but since it doesn’t have the detent, will it be an issue?
or you guys have any recommendations?
Thanks
i use the thrustmaster Airbus Quadrant but i wouldnt buy it again to be honest. i am uinsg the Fenix A320 and i often have to recalibrate the Throttle settings. And it is almost impossible to start the engines without getting the “trottle is not in idle” warning. you always have to fiddle around with it. and when i am flying a Hellicopter i would like to make finer adjustments but this is not possible with the Airbus Throttle.

I use the logitech throttle quadrant and am very happy with it. Its basic but gets the job done, is inexpensive and you can use two of them for twin engine

Whatever you do, please stay away from the TM T16000M throttle.
Way to sticky in terms of accurate operation.
The stick and rudders are okish but the throttle is a joke imho,|
In my case I still use the left over throttle from my saitek x-52 pro.
The stick died a while ago.

VKB controls are excellent, and in my opinion far better than anything I have previously had from Logitech or Thrustmaster. The THQ throttle module is relatively inexpensive but has very good build and component quality. In the future, it would be ideal for linking together with a Gladiator NXT joystick and SEM side module, as well as the FSM-GA panel you mentioned.
Because the THQ is designed to be used alongside the Gladiator, you would also need to purchase the GNX USD controller (EUR 17) and connect it inside the THQ to make it into a stand-alone device if you want to use the VKB throttle alongside your 3D Pro joystick.
If you could possibly stretch to a Gladiator NXT at the same time, then you would be using the USB controller that is built into the stick, and would not need the additional GNX USB module. I realise that’s more of an outlay than you were thinking of, but the Gladiator is far, far superior to any joystick from Logitech or Thrustmaster, and you need never upgrade or buy another. My Gladiator has over 1,300 hours in MSFS yet still looks and feels exactly the same as when I unboxed it.

Hi, Thank you all for your response, I think I’m gonna go with VKB THQ & FSM-GA for now.
Well I’m thinking about gladiator right now hahaha, Let see if I can stretch my budget.
Wait until the Bravo is back in stock or try getting it someplace else. The modularity is woth it.

i had a bravo for 1,5 years, now is broken. cheap platic all over. will not buy it again. have virpil CM3 throttle now, simply the bestl.
If you go with the FSM-GA to go with the THQ, don’t forget you need the EUR 17 GNX USB controller as well. Also, to mount the FSM panel to the THQ you would need the MFH panel mount, which is another EUR 28.
The Gladiator NXT is EUR 176 for the Premium right or left-handed version, and the FSM-GA panel is EUR 107. Factoring in the need for the USB controller and the MFH mount, the difference between THQ + FSM and THQ + Gladiator is only EUR 50 or so. If you can possibly stretch the budget, I would strongly recommend getting the stick and throttle first - build quality, flying feel and fine control is soooooo much better than the 3D pro that you’ll be flying better everywhere.
I started out with a stand-alone Gladiator, and added the SEM, FSM-GA and 2 x THQ’s as time & budget allowed.

I’m really happy with the TM Warthog throttle I got pre-owned on ebay. So many buttons and heavy duty switches you can flick. I know it’s not the best out there, but has been working great a d feels like very reasonable quality for the price.
if you can spare it, upgrade to the VKB STECS. it’s a very customizable throttle and works with other VKB modules. Detents can be hot swapped on the fly with the click of a button and the youtube tutorials are great resource for learning how to program the throttle, makes it very easy to understand. Even some of the side buttons can be changed out. If you can upgrade to the standard you get a nice button box you can use to program various functions. for example on mine (since i mostly fly tubeliners) i have most of my overhead bound to a couple of buttons, lights, APU, landing gear, i can change the heading bug and even turn on my engines. Overall the throttle is on par with virpil and winwing throttles.
also 2nd on the Gladiator stick. All around great high-mid level stick for a relatively entry-level price.
Keep in mind the t16000m and the airbus stick are the exact same stick and will have the exact same design flaws (chiefly the twist axis is cheap and fails out). They are a good starter set but you may find yourself getting an upgrade sooner or later
It really depends on what you want to fly and how much you want to spend. There isn’t a throttle that has no downsides so it’s about making the compromises that suit you or having multiple different throttles. People will recommend what they have or know but what suits one doesn’t always suit the next person.
For example.
Bravo is versatile but plastic, is very large, has had its failures and Honeycomb have a terrible reputation for customer service.
Saitek are cheap and plastic and over time suffer with noisy/jittery axes.
Any of the military throttles such as the TM Warthog or STECS only have 2 axis which simply doesn’t cut it when flying a twin engine GA aircraft.
Etc etc
I got two of these Logitechs mounted side by side for twin engines. The potentiometers are electrically noisy but good enough for throttle/prop/mixture. After a couple years of use, the pots wear and got dirty and the controls became jumpy. You can can try spraying tuner/contact cleaner into the pots or take the pots apart and clean them with iso. When cleaning no longer works, I am moving on to better (more expensive) throttles. Probably to the VKB throttles because I am happy with the NXT stick.
with a bit of patience and creativity you can still use them for such airframes. Granted being they are marketed towards military simmers, one might need to sacrifice some total immersion to still control lighter and less complex airframes.
Although i otherwise agree, get the gear for what you mostly intend to fly. since my main planes are tubeliners, playing DCS and star citizen, my need for additional physical axis becomes less a priority.
Same here. Anyone have any idea when the Bravo will be back in stock?
