Wow. Seriously, I appreciate your reply so much and probably the best most helpful reply I’ve ever had on a forum. Many many thanks
I don’t know, I run HDR on both XBSX and PC(same TV) no issues? I use the value king HiSense U7 so it has all the goodies(bought it for XBSX).
Dude, I use my 55 with it 1/2" above the desk ~3" behind the TBV1. Get the GrassMonkey 60HZ, you’ll never go back, it’s under $100. My 240HZ glitched and I went a week without it, he hooked me up with a replacement but I asked for the 60HZ as a swap to give me a tiny bit more FOV room to lean forward(borderline at ~33" or so), thought I was going to go into DT’s without it. Flew twice and couldn’t stop ‘looking’ around.
And I was the absolute master of disaster with view hats/quick custom views/zooms all over the yoke with XBSX forever. 5 months with GM head tracking after 1500 hours of being the panning wizard(40 years of R/C thumbs ) and I felt like a something doing something with a football all of a sudden without it.
I played Avatar for the last week leveling up my daughter because I couldn’t stand flying without it. Best $80 you’ll ever spend. The BIG change is that you can get your head so much higer over the panel prow in static view, so much more natural then sitting in front of ‘panel’.

What’s the difference in the Puck and the Odyssey?
Nothing, just the style. Cover is snap fit on the Odyssey and twist-on on the King Puck.
I switch HDR off to do screenshots. Then I switch it back on ASAP. I have a DisplayHDR 1000 certified monitor, and it’s night and day difference from SDR.
Most ‘HDR’ monitors sold these days are DisplayHDR 400.
So in a nutshell: buy the most powerful CPU, the most powerful GPU, the most powerful power supply, and the most robust case.
Nope, the most powerful components aren’t always the best for gaming. It depends on many factors, including budget.
edit
For example, even if AMD were to release GPU in the future that is both more powerful and cheaper than Nvidia, I still might not recommend it for one key reason: driver stability.
“PC Masterrace” (take that with a grain of salt, the name is more like a meme, but the organisation behind is actually very good) offers some good build-recommendation for new PC users who are buying/building their first PCs, they are always up to date.
Have a look at them, they are specifically based on gaming, and make absolute sense for MSFS imho:
-7800X3D
-670 Chipset mobo for future-proofing
-6000 CL 28-30 EXPO friendly approved ram 32, 48, or 64GB
-1000-1200 W Gold brand name PS (850w will run a 7800 no problem, but 1000+ futureproofing)
-Best GPU you can get, stop at 4080S or 7900xtx unless you want to go gonzo 4090
(with a grain of salt my 7800X3D/4080s now on ultra settings 4k it uses 17gb of ram and 9gb vram and 25% of the CPU)-it 'aint the hardware-main thread limited no matter what settings I try.
-WD Black or Samsung Pro SSD(s) of choice
-High quality air cooler or AIO if you’re feeling randy. Not so much for the 7800 but you’ll be set with an AIO if the next gen runs hotter.
In a year when they sort out the next Ryzens and the best ‘gaming’ version of the pile of options comes out ahead(there’s always a ‘Highlander’ of the group), swap out the CPU/Ram and sell it off, if you even need to, probably not. 2024 should fly(so to speak) on a 7800X3D with a 4070ti super or better.
I’ve used HDR for 2 years now with the sim and will never go back as it takes you one step further with regards to the level of clarity/immersion.
This is most likely due to a lower end monitor. I use a Samsung 55" Qled TV with gaming features and the picture is excellent. So much so that I tried VR with the Quest 3 and returned the Q3 after a couple of months because it couldn’t come close to my 55" Qled when viewing outside the plane.
You definitely get what you pay for with HDR (see @BegottenPoet228 table above on the DisplayHDR standard). Specs of the lower end HDR gaming monitors will just say “supports HDR-10” which means it doesn’t qualify as HDR with regards to the VESA certified DisplayHDR standard.
Yea I had a decent older Samsung ‘4K’ 55 downstairs I was using on the XBONE. When XBSX came out I went with the Hisense U7, mainly because I had just bought an expensive Sony OLED for the living room within a week or two It’s pretty much the king for gaming under $1K(now it’s updated to QLED and 144HZ+) but had HDR10 and two 2.1 VRR 120hz yada yada when hardly any TV’s did, I think the C2 had just come out. Although like an old TN gaming monitor, viewing angles are abysmal, but it wasn’t for anything other than XB(and now PC). The old(not that old) regular 4K Samsung at 60hz didn’t do well with HDR either, fine for it’s new home in the kid’s bedroom.
So although I will definitely wait at least a month after mfs24 release I have put together a parts list for build and would love your thoughts

Would use my Quest 3 initially
Also like the look of DOF reality hero 3 pro
Plus Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC
Mainly from people running less than HDR 1000 or people that have not calibrated their HDR monitor/TV in windows. A must to do as soon as you get one. Very easy to do:-
Looks good so far, seems the North is becoming quite popular. Unless there’s some revolution for 2024 and having more than 32GB of ram has some real benefit, should be good to go. 64GB doesn’t hurt for another ~$100. I went 32 of the same exact ram(non RGB) and haven’t seen more than half used yet. Why not a white mobo and GPU though while you’re at it? I have the North black mesh as it’s in a living space and only have the GPU fans light up when they’re running so it’s just a random stylish dark box most of the time. Tried to get mine as close to kind of a ‘PC XBOX’ so it’s just mean clean and doing it’s thing.
There’s a lot of opinions of how many and what SSD things go on and why. I only game on my gaming desktop so just got one WD SSD, all my real life junk is on other computers. You have several places to add fans, but would imagine you may only need one in the back with the AIO radiator doing most of the heavy lifting.
Oh my goodness I hate all these lights… egad. It’s so hard to find hardware without them these days.
Heh I just have my GPU fans set to match the color of the power lights on the North, you can see them through the mesh metal when they’re running(no glass). Any time not in a game they’re off. My Keychron is set to match whatever color all my TB stuff is set to. And that’s it.
