The Cocoa-Cola commercial is a deliberately way-over-the-top spoof - like if the guy had just read his daughter’s card before he left for work rather than at the end of his trek. I like the cut-away shot to the girl at one point, looking all starry-eyed and beatific that Santa is going to grant her her Christmas wish!
I think the message is, delivered in as humorously a sly way as possible to avoid being preachy, that in spite of all and maybe in spite of all your screw-ups, your kids love you and need you for who you are - hopefully, their responsible and loving parents - and maybe the message is slyly that the guy (and we) should think of that in the beginning and answering that need to start with - rather at the end as the character ironically learned …! Merry Christmas to all! (or non-denominationally, Happy Holidays! Whenever in the year such family occasions may arise!)
