About the event
Welcome to this first FSB group flight of 2022. Happy new year to everyone and we surely hope you have a great year with your relatives, and here, with your flying companions!
A few numbers, first:
- 600 - that’s your target speed and (radar) altitude (if you dare!) for most of the flight.
- 1100 - that’s the distance (NM) you will fly in about 3 hours.

3400 - that’s the length of the smallest strip you will land your jet onto. So you’d better train before the event
And now for the story:
Live the Lord of the Ring trilogy by traveling the glorious New Zealand from the North to the South of these two islands. We will fly over the vibrant green Shire, wave our Hobbits friends in Hobbiton, follow deadly and spectacular glaciers, deep valleys, dark forests and desolated plains up to Mount Doom where we will drop our payloads in the heart of the volcano. “Take that, Sauron!”
We will apply full after-burner for a few short segments to finally ride along the Anduin river where we’ll try to hear elvish chants until we get to the open sea. Our Precious will be here, of course. Right in front of us. Glowing like a massive disc of Mithril and gold. It will stare at us for a few minutes while we prepare ourselves for our final landing. And then, silently, it will disapear for the night and shroud the Middle-Earth into darkness.
A 3 hours long race against the sun, doing precision manoeuvers at high speed and a few complicated landings. You will be tensed, but the arrival will be so rewarding it will worth every drop of sweat. And you won’t be alone in your journey: The whole fellowship of FSB will be flying with you and the Discord will sound like the Inn of the Prancing Pony, filled with cheerful heroes sharing their adventures tales.
This flight plan requested careful and documented planning. It will be challenging to follow as a group, but it will definitely be a unique experience for everyone.
Takeoff is at 2000Z. Latecomers can always join along the way. The flight time will be between two and three hours long. If you stay with us all the way, that’s great. But if you have to leave early, that’s no problem either. We will make a 10 minute break at Wellington (NZWN) and maybe another break later if required and if we’re on schedule with the sun that we’re racing against

… Actually, I’m working on this one since october I think. Refining it, testing and validating every (almost) jet that was released since (up to the F-35). So I hope everybody will enjoy the ride!
