Loud screeching sound on startup

Today is the first time it’s happened to me. I launched the sim and was greeted with a loud, unending screeching sound, almost sounded like a jet engine. I haven’t 100% yet confirmed that it was the sim making said noise, but I wasn’t running anything else and it began as soon as I clicked the icon in my taskbar.
Anyone else ever had this?

Could it have been your computer fan with the CPU running hotter starting the game?

might be gpu coil whine i get it bad on my 3080 at start up as the fps hits around 1000fps

No, it was definitely audio going through my headphones. Probably nothing, I was just wondering.

I’ve not heard that myself, but from your description I’d say the music was messing up. Some kind of audio-glitch. If it’s a Bluetooth headphones, that might have made things worse.

Or your PC couldn’t stand that tune anymore

I myself have turned down the music volume to zero… but the programmers didn’t do a great job. You still hear it for a second or so when the program starts up. It’s the wrong order: first they start the music, then they check the volume. Oh well…

Possibly this is the reason?

Windows 10 KB4556799 causes audio issues, data loss (windowslatest.com)

Have you tried rebooting your PC?

I did just recently install a windows update, sounds like it was that…
Thanks for sharing that with me

I just tried it again and it didn’t happen, I guess its fixed (for now).
Thanks everyone for your replies.

I was going to say the same.

OP:
If you have the latest Windows updates there is known audio issues introduced by a recent patch.

Edit:
Funny… was going on about how many Windows updates caused issues in another topic recently, with some negative reactions - and here is one of them!

Cap your FPS to your monitor refresh rate .

have the same issue too, but it’s not as bad…

That particular update is not a recent one. The linked article is from May of 2020.

The one I am talking about is a update released end of March 2021, if I recall correctly, that is still being addressed by Microsoft.
Had just beat me to mentioning Windows updates.

I used to get it, it was coil whine on the 3090. Only happened when the videos loaded. If you have fast launch with the videos disabled or cap the FPS, it works fine.
