Have the same CPU with an rtx2060super. As long as I’m not bumping my TLOD pass 150 or 200 I am rarely mainthread limited. Running both Fenix and PMDG with no issues. I even lower it to 100 if I’m approaching areas like Burbank.
I also try to avoid running addons like AIG depending on where I fly.
You mention having good performance with an i7-10700k. Could you please share your MSFS settings, I am really struggling with performance and main thread limitation, which should not be the case with this CPU. I also run (with the Fenix) a TLOD between 150 and 200 and between high and ultra settings. Live traffic and all online features on except for multiplayer traffic. I have AIG traffic installed, but I use the FS internal live traffic feature. Thank you.
I think this thread deserves more attention. Is Asobo even aware of this issue? No matter where I land, upon landing my frames go down by roughly 14 FPS as you can see in my screenshots. This is unacceptable and makes IFR flights not enjoyable anymore.
This was one of the topics which came up in a recent Q&A with the developers. Their answer was disappointing and lacking any detail, but not surprising. They basically just said, ‘yeah we’re looking into all these performance issues’ which is the same thing they always say about it. In my opinion they are not reading enough of the forum discussions regarding performance/ground/photogrammetry issues, otherwise they wouldn’t be so oblivious to things we’ve already discussed.
This is not specific for SU9. Since the launch, ground performance is always worse than the cruise or airborne.
It makes sense though. Game needs to render 3D building, objects, AI etc. which is something that it does not do during the cruise. It does but compared to what it does on the ground, workload is way lower.
I don’t think there’ll be a solution for this though.
I suggest to tweak your settings see if it makes any difference.
Same here, but just because this has been a problem since launch doesn’t mean performance can’t be improved on the ground. I and others have already suggested multiple ways to do it.
I agree. Since the problem has already been ignored for this long, I believe it will continue to be.
I completely agree. It’s quite obvious that we have less performance on the ground. But seems like the only thing we can do right now is to try to tweak our systems and find the most optimized configuration and expect for a solution in the following months or years…
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
Yes, the problem is basically the same.
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
A lot of throughput is lost at medium and large airports. If you rotate the camera it’s a disaster, about 20 fps less.
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

yea
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
it happened out of the blue for me. Was having no prior issues. Now when you begin loading into the the airport the textures and everything take a hit and moves extremely slow. It takes about 15 seconds to fix itself but then the next camera of the load in comes in and the same thing happens. Once you are in the cockpit everything works fine. But if you attempt to go outside the cockpit the frames drop to single digits.
If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
The behavior you describe sounds like a memory issue or server connection issue. And since it happened out of the blue, and you were having no prior issues, it might be a different issue than the OP is experiencing (and unrelated to SU9). Or it might not. The developers won’t be able to reproduce it anyway, in my opinion.
im not agree. I have the same issue and 5 or 6 colegues too. My specs are preety good i think i get 12 fps or 15 close to the airport.
My Specs:
CPU: AMD 3900 X @ 4.6 Ghz
Mem: 64 GB
Video: msi 6900 OC
SSD : Corsair MP600
FPS @ FS2020 @ 2k with high settings (not even ultra) with 100% of 3d resolution
8 FPS , maybe 10 FPS when i try to land…
The head devs don’t read any of the forum discussions, the community manager maybe… but she probably just summarizes the biggest discussions and they go from there.
Why was this not fixed yet?
Apparently Asobo can’t reproduce it. Even though I have the same problem on two different machines.
Could this be a VRAM usage issue? Swapping data in and out of active VRAM as the camera moves if it’s right on the edge could produce this kind of performance profile, I think.
I get similar very slow performance while moving (single digits fps) vs decent speeds when completely still and parked at orbx’s KBURv2, with an 8 GB RTX 2070S. Most other airports (including KBURv1) are less memory intensive and don’t trigger as massive a slowdown.
It’s obviously a bug because this was not happening prior to one of the latest SU.
It’s hard to believe they “can’t reproduce” the issue. All their statement says is, “we know about the issue but we can’t do anything about it so just get used to it.”
Hard to say if this is bug,
I do everytime compare on same place FPS after each update, from SU7 i loosed cca 5 FPS (HD res mosly HIGH and 62 FPS), never had 4fps step after long flight problem. I’m afraid about deep problem with hw and os probably. Rtx30xx users mostly and more than 32gb ram also.
Hey All,
I don’t know if I may have stumbled on the cause of the graphical slowdown on the ground.
Today I noticed that my GPU was at less then 50% utilization. And there were stutters on the ground, even at small airports.
Then I was subsequently adjusting the in-game graphics settings and I changed the “Terrain Pre-Caching” from “Ultra” to “Low”.
When I applied the setting and returned to the game immediately my GPU utilization shot back up to 90-100%, and things were a lot smoother on the ground especially. (Both in-cockpit and outside views)
Could someone else try that?
I’ve had some success with this as well. After SU9, 'Terrain pre-caching" seems to have a big impact on the ground. Never had any ground performance issues before. All add ons removed/community folder emptied for testing. Terrain pre-caching seems to be the culprit for me too.
I7 10700k, gtx3060ti 32gb mee too
