Hi, I am struggling getting the sim to run smoothly. I have tried changing all settings I can think of and it makes more or less no change in fps. I have turned off all traffic and set graphics to low with a resolution of 640x480 and I still cannot reach above 30fps (on runway in EBBR with PMDG 777).
My system: RTX 3080 + Intel i9-10850K.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve performance?
During the last Beta, the framerates stayed pretty good, but when the final came down, so did the framerates. I hope this is not the lead in to 2024.
Hi @OwnedGorgon130 ,
Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.
The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.
If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

How is performance without the PMDG 777? I’ve seen other posts of low fps with this plane like this one.
The 3080 is a 4k gpu so by lowering resolution and graphics you are only exascerbating the problem by causing an even greater imbalance between it and your cpu. For best resuts keep LODs and traffic settings low but any graphic intensive settings high (I think that might include using available 8k textures for the aircraft).
Using a stock airplane certainly helps with framerate. Using the cirrus I gain approx. 10 fps to just below 40.
As far as I know that’s always been the case with the PMDG
But anyway that’s still rubbish performance are you sure you’re not using onboard graphics or have a gpu power cable unplugged?
Yes I was expecting better performance with default aircraft and my hardware. No I am running on my external gpu and it seems to work fine. Does not seem to be the gpu that limits the performance. If I look at the different cpu cores it seems like one of the cores are running at 100%.
If the gpu is fine then why run it at 480p and low settings? … This is a big issue because your cpu has not a hope of keeping up with it and will struggle as a result.
Your example is THE classic approach to show CPU limitation. Turning down graphic options resulting in no FPS increase clearly shows this. So, all you can do is lower TLOD to gain FPS or get a new CPU. Or use the tools available that I am not allowed to mention here ![]()
And, as others said: the sim gets smoother the better the balance between GPU and CPU is with a clear tendency to limit the CPU limitation scenarios as best as possible.
