Lower Resources in the Menu, Downloading, and Minimized. FPS cap?

I can’t get FPS limitation to work natively in the sim with Vsync or in Nvidia Control Panel… even doing the forced limitation route through control panel hasn’t fixed the issue. Basically just can’t spend more than 5 minutes in the main menus or my GPU starts running over 80C.

I’m sure you check this, but are your drivers up to date? Maybe reinstall your drivers, choose custom and then a clean install.

I solved it by forcing vsync.

VSYNC on is not a solution. It does cap the framerate in the menus, but will cause stutters if your hardware cannot cope with the monitor’s refresh rate. A bit better with GSYNC or FREESYNC, but not everyone has those.

i set Vsync on on to limit the FPS, but not sure if it applies on the menu system.

as a workaround, have you tried to limit the fps externally via your graphics card driver?

Used Riva Tuner to set max frame rate at 42, just a random number which works well for me.

There must be some improvement of the Menu. I’m updating the Game for hours and my GPU is at 100% the whole time. This must end. Just imagine the amount of energy wasted by people just looking at a menu in MFS2020.

This. And there should be a pause option that does not render anymore.

Good point. Actually I did not do these long flights because there’s no possibility of pausing withougt using 10 kWh of energy.

I believe there is something wrong in the menu and world map. Sometimes while in world map it seems like its struggling to load satellite imagery as well as airports and markers. Sometimes its so bad it causes a CTD. Hopefully they get this under control by the next update.

You can go to Load/Save and click Load or Save. Once you are in the file explorer the sim stops rendering. Then when you continue just press cancel

A few tips…

  1. Set your vsync to 30 frames max. MSFS will take all if you don’t limit the frames
  2. Click LOAD/SAVE and pick a flight, leave the file dialog on. Your fan will go off
  3. You’re not the first :smirk_cat:

What do you guys mean with Load/Save? Didn’t find this anywhere. Thanks!

I don’t want it to be at 30 in the game though, will set to 60 FPS. As I remeber this was leading to problems in the beginning so I switched VSYNC off at first.

Then put it at 60… put something… I’ve seen 50FpS here on the menu, I normally fly around 15-24, I’ve put the cap on 20.

It is a bug with FS2020. There is no limit on the FPS (and load on GPU) in the hangar scene. Personally I would like to provide an option to turn this off, but that will never happen, the only hope is a hero hacks the game to provide a way to disable this irritating scene/bug.

Somebody should also do a calculation on the unnecessary wasted energy and environmental damage this bug has caused. Something like average of x million users @ 5 hours menu time @ 100w = lots of environmental damage.

Someone get a celebrity to tweet @Microsoft its killing bees and it won’t be long before some poor dev gets assigned this bug they have assigned low priority.

Just limit the framerare or enable vsync. Why people always disable these and then complain?

  1. Because it caused problems. 2. Because 80% GPU usage is still too much

Not only this… 100% nonstop usage reduce the lifetime

this thing is knowns since last year. but, the priorities are on “important” things.
new liveries, version no 12 of airplane number 2 etc.
All the nice data for hours of downloading that I’ll never use.

Because Vsync is just causing trouble with G-Sync monitors … maybe.
