Really, a 5800 may be just fine and dandy for 2024. I peek at pre-built, stunningly beautiful looking ‘gaming computers’ at Costco or Best Buy or even and Microcenter and can’t believe how LOW the specs are compared to an average 2020 FS enthusiast. We had to go high end to beat 2020 into submission, will be interesting if they accomplished a proper ‘modernization’ of the entire engine for essentially the first time ever in FS history. It was always a clunky thing trying way more than other games in scope but using tech that was always at least 5+ years behind on day one. Even 20 years ago I had PC’s that played all the popular games well but FS was always a chuggernaut.
Well I’m finally off the XBOX and flying on my 1st ever PC. What a difference. It’s night and day for me. I’ve only flown a little bit, but I’m loving it. I haven’t changed any settings or tweaked anything yet. It’s such a huge improvement over the XBOX, I’m loading into airports that used to give me a 50/50 chance of CTD in the big jets. I’m sure I’ll run into issues, but so far I’m super happy with my switch. Lots more to learn and do with the PC. Thx for all the tips and suggestions you all gave me. It really helped me out in my move to the dark side!
Currently I’m running MSFS 2020 on my PC. I did load up 2024 on my XBOX (before I got the PC set up) and it was a disaster. I’m gonna give 2024 a try later next week on the PC I think. We’ll see how that goes. But at the moment, 2020 is working just fine for me.
I’ve used Macbooks extensively for work and I was never able to understand their popularity (outside of the ecosystem benefits)
It can be a big adjustment going back and forth. If you like the Mac/linux terminal you can install WSL and use bash.
2024 is a bit of a disaster at the moment on the PC as well. But performance and stability wise it’s great. Just too many bugs everywhere. Hope it gets better soon.
