Did you always get this, or has this only been in the Beta?
Here’s some concrete results after a 2 hours flight compared to a new session:
After flight EHRD-EICK
After re-starting PC and starting new flight at EICK (same conditions):
I only bought the sim recently, but after a quick test in the PMDG 777 I can confirm the behavior happens both with SU4b and SU3 (I did not test the Fenix in SU3, however the same outcome was observed in SU4b). WASM cache and Nvidia/DirectX cache cleaned for both tries. The main distinction is that when I initially load in, my performance is better with SU4b, which is probably to be expected given the optimizations they’ve been doing.
It seems that it’s all independent based on our system, but even so, we’re all getting the same results. I was lucky enough to take a 10-hour flight in the A332 (it’s rubbish, by the way, an aircraft), and the performance worsened during landing. CPU spikes up high. In fact, the sound was crackling as the CPU was hitting 100%.
All I can say is turn your settings down. I run on medium at 30FPS, and even then CPUis still limited.
I was getting audio crackles even when none of my cores were spiked to 100% so it’s not only that. It’s always invariably as it starts to load in photogrammetry data. But not every time / city.
Having similar issues. Especially when flying long distances, the sim starts to suffer from extremely long freezes that cause the entire PC to freeze. Doesn’t matter what aircraft. It cannot be seen in the screenshot, but most of the time, first the Manipulators-Thread starts to bog down, and then the Main-Thread follows.
When this issue is not affecting my system, I usually get 45 to 60 FPS, which I limit to 30 FPS to keep more consistent frametimes.
UPDATE:
I just went into the settings-menu. There I had the same freezes, which coincided with a message popping up saying: “Updating the Rolling Cache”.
Same issue here, the sim beta SU4 just turns to ■■■■ after a few hours, the FPS die and mainthread gets loaded up and starts spiking all over the place, do a sim restart and get 20-30FPS back..
Newest SU4 Beta build, I seem to also get this randomly. Not as bad as SU3 but does seem to crop up
Fortunately, after the latest NVIDIA driver update to 581.80, I had far fewer problems and the game has been running much better and smoother than ever before (I’m playing on version SU3)! So I can recommend trying this update at least once.
Hello! So i just actually got the mainthread to recover without tabbing out of the sim.
Ive had the issue that the MT would load up a lot and would only recover when i would go to the browser or settings for a bit and return. After a couple of seconds it would load up again without recovery.
Ive only tested this for a few minutes by now but after resetting my bios settings to default (and updating mobo drivers), the MT actually did recover by itself in game.
neeeeeevermind
still same issue, i hope it will be fixed before su4 release
I decided enough was enough — but before throwing in the towel, I figured I’d give it one more shot. I switched over to the Beta build on Steam and poof — just like that, the mainthread-related FPS drop is no longer an issue for me. Granted, I haven’t yet tested it on a long-haul flight, but after an hour of testing, my FPS remained stable. Previously, after just a 30-minute session, it would have easily dropped by half or even more.
bug upon complicated bug now after this last update the a330 then when you use the tablet the fps drop is drastic absurd again complicated like this
I am still experiencing this issue on my system. My setup is:
-
CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X3D
-
GPU: RTX 5080
-
RAM: 64 GB
Even with the highest graphics settings at 4K resolution, my FPS only reaches 10–30.
When I lower the graphics to the minimum at 1920×1080, the FPS remains around 10–40, with almost no improvement.
This issue persists regardless of graphics settings.
Unfortunately, the relevant part of the FPS Display is not visible.
Lowering resolution would only help if the bottleneck was the GPU. In this case the MainThread latency is the issue which is CPU related. Are you seeing this in SU3 or SU4 beta?
