Hi,
I managed to get all parameters in the flight_model.cfg work correctly, except for the wing.
Here a picture of how it looks like:
The datum reference is 0,0,0 and the wing should be located at -5.9ft with its leading edge.
I set wing_pos_apex_lon = -5.906 and wing_pos_apex_vert = 0.328, but not working.
I then tried this as mentioned in the SDK documentation:
set compute_aero_center = 0
aero_center_lift = -4.266 (the center of the wing, not the leading edge)
As you can see, the wing is still located at datum 0,0,0 with its center.
Can anyone help me get the wing at the correct location?
No answers yet? Guys, I am frustrated
Hi! Anyone knows how to position the wing?
I fixed it myself…
They did some weird stuff in order to be compatible to FSX and there are multiple reference points. Your 3D model needs to be located with the reference datum at 25% of the wing root. They call this setpoint.
Only then, you can set the new reference_datum_position to where your nose actually is, so that all other positions will be correct again in rgard to your reference datum.
I just started messing around with the cfg files on my aircraft. I noticed the 747 uses the reference datum at the nose but the A320 uses 0,0,0. Threw me off at first when I was looking at the coordinates of the landing gear and engines on the 747. Nice job finding a solution.
Interesting, I will check how they solved the wing problem there.

Cool, let me know what you find. I’m having a similar issue with the wing rectangular box not showing in the correct position. I’m keeping my datum at 0,0,0.
Is the a simple calculation to get the wing back in the right place leaving the 0,0,0 datum point as it is?
I’m still trying to figure this one out… unfortunately I keep having CTD’s when I’m debugging the plane so it gets annoying. I haven’t installed the latest version of the SDK yet so maybe that will help.

As far as I know, there is no change in the SDK regarding this and there won’t be for a long time. Right now, they focus on the project and aircraft editor, but the cfg-files are untouched.
I promised to have a look and I did. It is really weird, as I could find some aircraft, which were using wing_pos_apex_lon to change the position of the main wing, but they didn’t change much. So it is still possible, that this is not working and they tweaked flight behavior a different way. Besides these aircraft, the main wing is always located at 0,0,0 with the quarter chord line.
If there was a simpler way like a variable where I can change the offset of the 3D model, this would be also a way to go.
Can someone else check? Maybe these
I’ve just tried shifting the reference_datum_position to negative wing_pos_apex_lon in my case changing the reference datum to -22.87 and the aircraft now has much better pitch control comparable with FSX, but with all the values from .air and cfg transposed to the new flight model format.
The only thing is the elevator authority only seems to work after being airborne - from the ground I can’t get the nose wheel up at takeoff speed or above, but once airborne it’s normal…! Jet engines also have the right values as far as I can see, but also not enough power on take-off.
